Ted Cruz Rejects Trump Plan for Mass Deportation Roundup
Wall Street Journal ^ | 1/10/16 | HARRIET TORRY

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz says he doesn't support sending forces to round up and deport illegal immigrants, likening such a policy to "a police state."

"I don't intend to send jackboots to knock on your door and every door in America, that's not how we enforce the law for any crime," Mr. Cruz told CNN in an interview broadcast Sunday.

Good point, even illegals do have the basic right to due process guaranteed under the fourteenth amendment to all persons not all citizens.

Actually a I spoke too fast. Even illegals have some constitutional rights. I am going to post a portion of the 14th Amendment and type the relevant wording in sll caps. Basically the 14th Amendment describes some rights for citizens and some rights for any person.

No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of CITIZENS of the United States; nor shall any state deprive ANY PERSON of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to ANY PERSONwithin its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

The media just looks ridiculous. Trump isn't proposing this. No one is proposing this.

Yes the headline is utterly stupid. Trump never proposed random searches and Cruz isn't for random searches.

Yet some folks will comment on this thread like the headline is accurate.

Goodness law is fine. However, indiscriminately sending jackboots from house to house willy nilly in the middle of the night is exactly what the Nazis did. It also happens to be unconstitutional.

I agree. I think such a plan is common sense and would satisfy most citizens. (More than 70%) The key is to show the American people that it will actually be done.

I would add to that punishing sanctuary cities by taking away their federal aids as well as English only in any government related activity including election info.

Calm your hysteria. Eisenhower didn't do that, nor will Trump or Cruz or any other president.

Relax and have a cup of hot Ovaltine to relax your paranoia.

Be honest....you're more in sloppy sympathy with the illegal trespassers and their non-existent constitutional rights than you are with the very real rights of your own fellow citizens affected negatively by these criminal invaders.

Under current law, anyone in the U.S. illegally who has any contact with any agency or government service is supposed to be reported to ICE.

“That is not how American law enforcement works, we also don’t have people going door-to-door looking for murderers, we don’t live in a police state,” Mr. Cruz said.”

Only thing wrong with that is that Trump has not proposed that jackboots go door to door and drag out illegals.

Could it be that Cruz is doing what Cruz-bots claim it is impossible for Cruz to do — mis-characterize an opponent’s position, or in other words, lie?

GWB sixteen years ago promised us “compassionate conservative”. Cruz is getting to sound more like GWB did back then, every day.

“No one is proposing this.”

Hey what difference does that make to the media? Their job is to get people to vote for the candidate that will do the media the most good.

Here they make Trump look extreme and Cruz look weak.
It’s a ‘two-fer’!

We shouldn’t have to do a round up and deportation to fix the problem. It’s way too easy for them to turn around and come back.

Get rid of sanctuary city status. Impose huge fines for hiring someone not here legally. Impose major consequences for using false ID’s or using the ID information or social security information of another person. Don’t just pass these laws, enforce them. Secure the border.

You're going back to the Elian situation? The FL family kept Elian illegally. Custody law was clear and regularly enforced between Cuba and the US. Clinton did what had to be done to recuse a kidnapped child.

Clinton wasn't anywhere near as bad about allowing the invasion of the US as GWB was.

"it would violate the 4th Amendment on warrantless searches and seizures"

Trump said he would do this without warrants?
Can you give me a cite?

11/11/15 - "The morning after Tuesday's Republican presidential debate, candidate Donald Trump told MSNBC's Morning Joe that, as president, he would like to create a "deportation force." Asked by host Mika Brzezinski how he would envision deporting millions of undocumented immigrants from the United States, Trump said: "You're going to have a deportation force, and you're going to do it humanely." He added: "We're going to build the wall. It's going to be a real deal. It's going to be a real wall."

What the heck is a "deportation force"? It calls to mind the Gestapo, who, if you recall, went door to door in Germany seeking Jews.

I have difficulty believing that Trump is this stupid or this ignorant of the law. So I'm left with the conclusion that he's just Machiavellian.

And ICE is supposed to deport them. Our local Police told me they don’t bother to call ICE because they tell them they won’t come to get them and to let them go.

I didn’t say Trump said that. The interviewer asked the question that way. I am merely saying we can’t do that kind of thing here.
The thing is, we can enforce immigration laws like any other law enforcement work. Good investigative police work, good intelligence, tips from the public, etc to find and deport illegals. We don’t have to indiscriminately go barging into people’s houses, go door to door harassing honest citizens who are trying to sleep, and looking under people’s beds and whatnot, with the excuse that we are hunting illegals.

That’s because they have their orders from Obama, just as the border agents do. A President who demands strict enforcement of the law will make all the difference.

I agree, it can be done very efficiently, under Trump.
