Writing in mid-June, a couple of days after Donald Trump announced his candidacy, we offered the judgment that he should not be our next president: âWe're not Trump enthusiasts. We're not even Trump fellow travelers. We're closer to Trump deriders."
And so we unapologetically remain. It would be ungracious not to acknowledge Trump's remarkable standing in the polls six months later. But we see no reason to alter our conclusion that Donald Trump shouldn't be president of the United States. Indeed, Trump's behavior over this period has confirmed our judgment. If back in June we wrote that the rest of the presidential field could use "A Little Touch of Trump," it's fair to say that we've gotten more Trump than we bargained for.
Yet we continue to trust Republican primary voters will not select Donald Trump as the GOP nominee for president. And we continue to believe, as we said at the outset, that more conventional politicians could learn something from Trump. We suggested then that "politics is about dreams as much as it is about deliverables, about pride as much as it's about pocketbooks. Trump understands that. It's not clear most of the rest of the field does." We pointed out then that "Trump understands that many Americans believe winning isn't everything, but it's a good thing. A very good thing. It's not clear most of the rest of the field does." We observed then that "Trump understands that Americans have deep doubts about the competence and probity of our political class. It's not clear most of the rest of the field does." And we wrote then that "Trump understands that it's okay to say something the media elite will shake their collective head at. It's not clear most of the rest of the field does."
Poor Billy is going to have to vote Democrat again.
Pray America wakes
‘Unpleasant times. ‘
That too

I am so sick of Trump trashing every one. None of us let our kids act that way. It is just childish. (and to me revealing) No way to run a country and he obviously can’t quit.

Says the person who gets on every election thread and trashes Trump and “obviously just can’t quit.” You’re getting really boring and predictable, there, libby. Says Albion Wilde
“...Yet we continue to trust Republican primary voters will not select Donald Trump as the GOP nominee for president. And we continue to believe, as we said at the outset, that more conventional politicians could learn something from Trump.”
Sorry. Not going to wait for cheap knock-off to “learn”. I’m going for the real thing now.
Kristol says:
1. “politics is about dreams as much as it is about deliverables, about pride as much as it’s about pocketbooks. Trump understands that. It’s not clear most of the rest of the field does.”
2. We pointed out then that “Trump understands that many Americans believe winning isn’t everything, but it’s a good thing. A very good thing. It’s not clear most of the rest of the field does.”
3. We observed then that “Trump understands that Americans have deep doubts about the competence and probity of our political class. It’s not clear most of the rest of the field does.”
4. We wrote then that “Trump understands that it’s okay to say something the media elite will shake their collective head at. It’s not clear most of the rest of the field does.”
Kristol says Trump shouldn’t be President; but he’s willing to accept/impose someone who doesn’t have a clue about what’s going on.
Reagan solidified Social Security and put 100% tariffs on some Japanese imports. Reagan was a pure 'America first' President - America first not the corporations. This thing about how Reagan spoke (versus his actions) is a poor sidelight with what we should consider today. If you cannot define yourself and cut through the filter, you have a loser.
Trump cuts through the media today in a way even Reagan never had to deal with... ravenous PC has strapped the country and has even strapped Ted Cruz - He never made a dent against it in his years in the Senate.
I see a certain mea culpa in this column but I also see the “we still hate Trump” too.
What he begrudgingly admits is that Trump has changed the “narrative” from whatever the leftist mediots want to what Trump wants it to be. The so-called “War on Women” is out the window, the muslims should be kept out is proving to be prescient, and on, and on, and on.
They just can’t stand it that Trump is right on the issues
No way Trump picks the Canadian for a his running mate.
Reagan was a natural born Citizen.
Answer is no. They will do everything behind the scenes to ensure Trump and or Cruz do not win.
Been waiting for you np!
Got a question for you. On this thread from 2011:
Meet Donald Trump, Sudden Right-Wing Conservative: Contributions, Abortion, Health Care, and Taxes
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2700816/posts
You said the following about St. Donald:
“Paying bribes to pols is one thing, touting them for president, as he did with Hillary, is quite another thing.
What about the rest of the facts, that are in this article? That man nothing at all to you either?
What about his disgusting personal life?

AND then theres this gem:
Here’s a news flash for ya................Trump can’t beat Obama! Trump would be even WORSE than Barry! He’s Clintonian re morals, worse than Barry re taxes, and far worse than Hoover re tariffs.
Because he has donated to more Dems than GOPers, is personal friends of the Clintons (he wanted Hillary to be president! ), has mob ties, his SCOTUS picks would be a disaster, as would his other appointments.

Care to explain? You’ve done a wonderful job of explaining all of our concerns about Trump.
Kristol et al should not have foisted Romney on us and tried to do the same with Jeb.
This is a direct result of that.
I doubt Kristol et al will get the message.
Same here. People like a true leader and Trump is that, if nothing else. True leaders have Common Sense and are NOT removed from Reality.
People are SICK of the emasculation and hatred of heterosexual males (the Jenner/mutilation and normalization of the mental illness Marxist movement).
My son can not even watch ESPN with his son anymore-—the Satanic push to convert children to satanism and normalize evil is so obvious.
Truth is banned since the 60s with the literal ban of Christianity (that which created the Age of Reason and Modern Science and the ethics of our “Justice” System) as they force Satanism, atheism, materialism, islam, irrationality, mental illness, etc. on our children and bakers and nuns and churches.
If we are to be free again-—we need to take back the Constitution and Rule of Law and put SCOTUS 5 in prison for Treason and imposing their vile irrational rule of oligarchy. Killing babies has to be rremoved from our “Justice” system since it is “null and void” anyhow.
We need this evil Marxist Vice System ended now and I think the only ones to do it would be Trump and Cruz. Trump will take a sludge hammer to the EO and a lot of the alphabet unconstitutional agencies, as would Cruz. (At least I hope they will dismantle this Leviathan—Stalin’s Constitution). Unjust Law is “null and void” anyhow....anything antithetical to the Constitution-—including using the “koran” for swearing in— it is illegal to promote sharia law which is unconstitutional and treasonous, a promotion of the overthrow of the Constitution.
Cram it Kristol!
Cram it Kristol!
So this is the best the GOP-e can do? “Thanks Donald, now STFU”?
Come on Kristol.
Has Weekly Standard endorsed anyone? Or Kristol?
Or do they only rip candidates?
So Bill now admires Trump but still wants a do nothing republicrat for President. LOL!
From could not to should not.
Cankles and her ZEro-esque freak show getting the can.
The GOPe getting kicked out of power on their arses.
The fellow-travelers and enablers like Kristol looking for work.
