It is more than an open secret that the Republican Establishment so hates Ted Cruz that they are more and more openly rooting for Donald Trump to win Iowa.
I just got today’s Hotline from National Journal. It is behind a pay wall, but it is worth noting their top story confirms what I have been seeing and hearing. Josh Kraushaar writes,
It's the $64,000 question for establishment-minded Republicans: Would they rather see Ted Cruz or Donald Trump win the Iowa caucuses, assuming none of the more moderate candidates prevail?
In an informal survey of senior GOP strategists, the clear winner was Trump. Their arguments were reasoned but underscored: a) how they're still underestimating Trump; and b) how much they personally hate Cruz to the point where emotion is trumping strategy.
The Establishment thinking is that if Trump beats Cruz in Iowa, they can then beat Trump with Rubio, Bush, or Christie.
But that is horse manure and if they were not all incompetent morons they would know it. These guys have not made a dent in Trump’s popularity. The only guys who has is named Ted Cruz, and he has done it by being humorous and kind to Trump.
If Trump beats Cruz in Iowa, the man still does not bleed. That makes him stronger and more and more locks Trump in as a viable contender. It makes it more likely that Cruz’s coalition breaks to Trump and sustains Trump, who can also pick up blue collar voters in northern states and the Rust Belt to sustain his candidacy.
The truth is this: the establishment wing of the Republican Party would rather Hillary Clinton win than Ted Cruz win. If Ted Cruz wins, a good number of the establishment staff would be on the unemployment line, shut out of jobs in the White House that they covet.
Ted Cruz could use this all in an advertising campaign. The establishment hates him so much they’re rooting for Trump and Hillary. The very guys who lament that the Trump nomination would be the death of the GOP, would rather see Trump win Iowa than Cruz.
It should not be amazing. It should be predictable. But still — the hate these guys have for Cruz is unending. And why? Because he dared stand up to them.

hillary to bring 20 MILLION!
The Republican Establishment is rooting for Hillary.
Trump trashes them on Twitter.
Cruz trashed them on the floor of the Senate.
Makes sense.
The establishment prefers Cruz because they know they can defeat him. Cruz isn’t Trump, doesn’t have command of the media, wouldn’t survive the coming assault.
The GOPe is as stupid as they ever were and completely out of touch with America and Americans. They are a warmed over version of the Democrat Socialists and are subservient to them.
They sure are. Because Trump has no principles whatsoever, conservative. GOP or otherwise. It’s all about him so he’ll do whatever they want.
They are seeing Trump as potential winner in Novemeber and they think Trump would be easier to deal with — that they could get Trump to go along with them — than Cruz.
What’s Nickelback?
“Erick Erickson” - I wouldn’t believe a word he says.
Nickelback is a Canadian rock group that has lately become a laughingstock of a band.

Then why aren't they supporting him? Your post makes little sense.
Another reason why the GOPe prefers Trump is that there's a pile of dirt on Trump that will be dumped if Trump gets the nomination.

Then you have the above story where the GOPe is going to put up a firewall in South Carolina to stop Trump. These stories are all over the spectrum.

And, of course, he is for Renewable Fuel Standard (ethanol mandate), so governement can pick winners and losers.
Trump's Record on Free-market Issue: (from the Conservative Review)
Trump has a terrible record on free market issues. The only bright spot is the Federal Reserve's quantitative easing, but this glimmer is countermanded by his repeated support for bailing out Wall Street and the auto industry, and increased stimulus spending. Of particular concern is Trump's belief that the government can use eminent domain powers to seize private property in the name of private economic development. This comes as no surprise, given his support for using eminent domain to profit his own company.
Trump supported the Supreme Court’s 2005 decision in Kelo v. City of London, allowing public authorities to seize private land for economic development by private investors; Trump said, “I happen to agree with [the decision] 100 percent.” (National Review) This is no surprise given Trump’s attempt to use eminent domain in his own line of work. (Institute for Justice)
Trump supported President Obama’s 2009 stimulus, saying: “The word stimulus is probably not used in its fullest…you know, certain of the things that were given weren't really stimulus. They were pork, as we call it, or they were gifts to certain people. But overall, I think he's [President Obama] doing very well. You do need stimulus and you do have to keep the banks alive.” (CNN)
Trump supported TARP, saying, "You had to do something to shore up the banks, because ... you would have had a run on every bank." (CNN)
Trump supported the 2008 auto bailout, saying, “I think the government should stand behind them 100 percent. You cannot lose the auto companies. They’re great. They make wonderful products.” He also said that the federal government could “easily save the companies.” (Daily Caller)
Trump criticized the Federal Reserve’s intervention in the debt market, saying quantitative easing creates “phony numbers” that mislead the marketplace and “will not ultimately benefit the economy. The dollar will go down in value and inflation will start rearing its ugly head.” (CNBC)
Donald Trump has a history of using eminent domain to complete business deals. Multiple times Trump has supported the use of government agencies to take possession of homes and businesses for use in his private business plans. Eminent domain seizures are reserved only for public use of property rather than abuse by the government taking property from one individual and giving to another. (Washington Post)
Donald Trump has sought and received crony capitalist tax breaks for his commercial properties in New York. These tax breaks, and even an abatement, force the property taxes of other property owners to rise at the expense of the connected. Special treatment for one business or industry over another with the tax code conflicts with free market principles. (National Review)
In 2009, Trump supported Barack Obama's call for limits on the pay of executives. (CNN)
Erick, you are only fooling the hardcore Cruz supporters with this tripe. First of all, Cruz is establishment in the area that really matters: corporate globalism and control by the donor class. They don't like Cruz's social conservatism but feel they can easily defeat him on that.
Fact is, if Trump takes IA it's all over. If Cruz takes IA... well, it doesn't matter as far as the establishment machine is concerned.
The establishment isn’t as stupid as they act. They say they’d prefer Trump but behind the scenes they’re pushing the meme that Cruz can beat Trump 24/7.
It’s like them saying Hillary wants to run against Trump but is terrified of Cruz. It’s all kabuki theatre.
