During the White House press briefing this afternoon, one reporter explained the fight between Cruz and Trump and asked if the president was enjoying the drama around Cruz's citizenship.
"I don't know if he does, but I sure do," Earnest quipped as reporters chuckled in response.
Earnest then seemed willing to feed the narrative questioning Cruz's citizenship.
"It would be quite ironic if after 7 or 8 years of drama around the presidentâs birth certificate if Republican primary voters were to choose Senator Cruz as their nominee," he said. "Somebody who actually wasnât born in the United States and only 15 months ago renounced his Canadian citizenship."

I would consider this a feeler, to gauge reaction.
If progressive bloggers pick it up look for more of the same.
It seems the liberals are about to get new marching orders, new talking points, even after some have been defending Ted Cruz eligibility out of habit.
Since FDR’s time...
The Constitution is interpreted in such a way that if the Founders went to the trouble of putting something into the Constitution it must be interpreted wrongly if it is interpreted in such a way that it can never be enforced.
The Constitution can’t be unconstitutional, so if it is unenforceable then it’s not being interpreted properly.
IOW, what you’re saying has to be the wrong interpretation. Somebody HAS to have standing.
Sorry to disappoint you. I don't go down the list saying there are all these different kinds of citizens. You are either born one or not. If you are born one you are eligible. I'm perfectly fine with that. Cruz doesn't have allegiances to the Queen. You can go pick your nits if you want to.
If Cruz and Trump play this right - and if their followers stop the crap-slinging long enough to think about what the COUNTRY needs - Obama and his owners may really, really regret ever bringing this up...
You’re an idiot. Or you’re over thinking this.
THE PURPOSE is to make sure no one who is President has DIVIDED LOYALTIES.....duh. You make scientists look like a bunch of left brained type B’s who can’t see the big picture if it bit them in the ass.
So the question of what the Founders would say today about the technicality....is that we can never know. What would they say about Cruz and the intent? No problem whatsoever.
If the Dems do get this in court with discovery and have full arguments they have a lot of ammo. For instance another case.
‘Kawakita v. United States, 343 U.S. 717 (1952)’
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2699785/posts
Kawakita was a dual citizen who after his sentencing and jail time was eventually deported back to Japan, I believe by the Kennedy administration, to never come back to the United States.
I’m surprised the WH would want to weigh in on the question of eligibility. I’m not convinced, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the current occupant is eligible. Do they really want to go there or are they just feeling very bold these days.
I WILL vote for Trump, best among imperfect group. Having said that, I think Trump is just throwing mini hand grenades, relatively harmless.
Team Obama is something else entirely.
Of course the impostor-in-chief will criticize a citizenship proof option.
This from a crook who has yet to provide a certified copy of the original, confirmed on site in Hawaii.
All Cruz needs to do is announce that he will provide a certified birth certificate confirmed at the site of official records, Plus access to ALL educational records, including applications to all schools and Universities, and challenge all other candidates and critics to do the same.
Obungo's reaction to that should be amusing...
Senator Cruz was not only one of the most brilliant men to ever graduate from Harvard with a Law Degree, he also served as our U.S. Solicitor General, successfully arguing several cases before SCOTUS.
CRUZ himself, more than anyone else, absolutely knows for certain that he is Constitutionally qualified to hold our nation’s highest office or he would not be seeking same.
All this talk is nothing but a nuisance distraction.
A thrice married guy has done nothing illegal or immoral.
A rapist with unlimited political power as governor and President being accused of rape by up to 8? women, is something else altogether.
well, the moral part i’ll leave each to decide on his own.
not sure how you can answer for everybody on that one.
and yes, Clinton is a rapist.
didn’t say I cared that trump was thrice married.
if it’s not immoral to go bouncing around having kids with different women because you’re rich, then we can’t hold a double standard to minorities because they are not rich.
financially, we can see it as wrong and unfair, but morally, no.
Trump canât stay away from the clown show. Nothing new here.
Of course there is. All those litigants over Obama's NBC status were found to not have standing I will assure you that the Democratic party will have standing. By the way the GOPe was never a party to any challenge to Obama's NBC status. (They were however complicit in his fraud)
Trump did attack Cruz on this issue. He brought it up as a problem that might disqualify Cruz.
What Trump did was point out that the very thing that just happened, might very well happen.
It's after my bedtime, so I can't be held responsible for my comments.;-)
That's my suggestion for the next Constitutional Amendment. Freepers cannot be held responsible for their comments after bedtime.
If it is settled law, why did the Senate in 2008 commission Lawrence Tribe and Ted Olson to write an opinion on McCain's 's eligibility and then pass a resolution saying McCain was eligible?
The matter needs to adjudicated in the courts sooner rather than later.
Is twice married (Reagan) OK?
Trump's pushing this issue into the media is probably so Trump can't clear Cruz for Veep.
:)
Coming from the kenyan fag,
That is pretty funny
