Hillary Clinton’s Preferred Title for Bill? ‘First Mate’ or ‘First Dude’

Faced with a sea of raised hands, Democrat Hillary Clinton often struggles out loud trying to decide who to call on. At a town hall meeting on Tuesday in Sioux City, Iowa, she knew right away.

"I gotta call on you," she told a young man near the front. Turning to the audience, she said, "He has a T-shirt that says, 'Bill Clinton for First Lady.'"

"You know," the former first lady said, "I'm sort of more partial to First Mate or First Dude."

The voter went on to ask a question about the criminal justice system

It wasn’t the first time that Mr. Clinton's unusual potential role has been noted.

Asked at the most recent Democratic debate about the former president's role in her White House, she said, "I am probably still going to pick the flowers and the china for state dinners and stuff like that. But I will certainly turn to him as prior presidents have for special missions, for advice, and in particular, how we’re going to get the economy working again for everybody, which he knows a little bit about."
