Why did politicians and pundits underestimate Trump? Why didn't some other presidential aspirant beat him to the politically incorrect punch? A major reason is that they fell victim to the illusion that political correctness (PC) is far more popular than it is. They lost sight of what Reagan called the difference "between critics and box office." And why? Because the academia/media/entertainment (AME) Axis -- the Cultural Establishment -- has us living in a Matrix-like faux reality in which elite swill masquerades as popular will. Agree with the idea or not, for example, relatively few Americans are actually "offended" by the proposal to halt Muslim immigration.
But while PC isn't popular, it is potent. It's much like the state ideology in the old Soviet Union: few average people subscribe to it in doctrinaire fashion. But most everyone is afraid of the ideological machinery of the state ("thought police" in our time). And this brings us to perhaps the most significant factor in Trump's popularity.
Taking the Marxism analogy further, imagine it's the old Soviet Union, and there's a colorful dissident saying everything other citizens want to say but fear to. Now imagine the government sends its secret police to silence him, and they just get consumed. Bullets have no effect on him, and with every assault he simply becomes bigger. Imagine how frustrated and fearful the Kremlin commissars would become.
And imagine how the people would be in his corner.
(Oh, they might not always be willing to voice their support, but their hearts would be with him. And we see the same phenomenon today: a recent analysis indicated that Trump was under-polling because certain people, particularly the college-educated, were afraid to support him publicly due to social pressure...)
And Trump is that dissident.

Cultural and political establishments are not really interested in understanding something they see as a threat to their power and position.
Cultural and political establishments love the status quo because the status quo guarantees their extended position and power. Actual issues matter little to these people.
That is why freedom must always be guarded and fought for, because gradually those in power will go against individual freedom and true change in favor of perpetuating their own status.

Catch the last man to call into Rush yesterday. He was a mayor iirc. He said at Biloxi rally there were many there who were elected officials around the state but afraid they would be spotted in the crowd and have consequences from GOPee for supporting Trump.
It is apparent they all live in their own private bubble. Safe in their environment, oblivious to the real world and real people. When reality is actually seen - they have no idea how do deal with it nor how to react.

I love his bombastic ways, I love his ‘in mid sentence he changes course’ it makes you perk up your ears, and those that watch his rallies, read his books, listen TO what he says always know he’s wrap right back around to finish what he started...
He is an American Business man, he has the American Dream, he is living the American Dream and he is giving America and it’s people a chance to live it also....
He’s not worried about winning this election, I think he knows he will or he wouldn’t be doing it...his wife surely knows it along with his family...it just doesn’t get better than this....

Most of the hispanic (legal) people I know are voting for Trump. 5 of the 6 black people in my church are voting for Trump. Funny thing....these people want jobs too.
