Ted Cruz: Trump Will Let Deported Immigrants Back In, I Won’t
BuzzFeed ^ | 1/5/16 | S/Kacynski

Posted on 01/05/2016 8:28:11 AM PST by VinL

Ted Cruz said during an appearance in Iowa on Monday that there’s a difference between him and Donald Trump on immigration.

The Texas senator, who is leading the field of Republican presidential candidates in Iowa according to the latest polls, was asked by a man in the state if, like Trump, he believed that all undocumented immigrants should be deported.

Cruz replied, “Absolutely yes.”

“And in fact, look, there’s a difference,” said Cruz. “He’s advocated allowing folks to come back in and become citizens. I oppose that.”

Cruz is on a six-day trip around the state to shore up support for his candidacy. He made the remarks during an appearance in Boone. The video of the exchange was uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday. Here’s a transript of the exchange:

QUESTIONER: Both you and Donald Trump are really strong on immigration, but he supports deporting all the illegal immigrants. Are you willing to say the same?

TED CRUZ: Absolutely, yes. We should enforce the law.

Q: All?

T.C.: We should enforce the law.

Q: Ok.

T.C.: And in fact, look, there’s a difference. He’s advocated allowing folks to come back in and become citizens. I oppose that.

Q: So no citizens and all of them?

T.C.: So, if you read I have a very detailed 11-page immigration proposal that’s on my website it’s TedCruz.org. It was designed with Steve King and Jeff Sessions were the two who sat down with me to prepare it and it is enforce the law across the board.

Please don’t use the word ‘conservative’ in the same sentence with Trump. There is a reason that he appeals more to dems than conservatives.

Trump is NO conservative since he believes in banning ‘assault’ weapons and increasing gun purchase wait times.

If you don’t believe me then get it directly from Trump because in his book ‘The America We Deserve’ Trump wrote ‘The Republicans walk the NRA line and refuse to even limited restrictions. I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun.’

When asked by Ammoland if Trump still supports this position, Trump artfully dodged the question and only claimed that he still ‘generally’ opposes gun control. Trump does know that banning an entire class of weapon IS gun control, right?

Trump even recently claimed that assault weapons should be banned by stating, ‘who needs them except criminals and police?’

Trump also wants a longer waiting period for hand guns, rifles, and shotguns, up to 72 hours. That is also gun control.

I don’t care if you support Trump for other reasons or not, but to claim Trump is conservative is a blatant distortion of the indisputable facts.

Trump is no different than Obama. Can you guarantee that a President Trump won’t use an EO to ban ‘assault’ weapons?

“How would CRuz refuse to let folks apply to immigrate, LEGALLY?

By EO?”

At least what Cruz is proposing could be legally justified because he could ban the reentry of anyone that previously violated the immigration law. It probably would not even require an EO, but an administrative rule change to ban anyone with a criminal history (aka immigration law violations).

How do you propose Trump will attempt to ban Muslims from entering the U.S. EO?

Trump’s proposal isn’t legal or within the authority of a president to ban an entire religion. Then again, Trump’s claim that he will force Mexico to pay for the wall is pretty stupid too. I’d love to know how he would enforce that one!

Name one thing that Trump has done when it comes to governance of our country! So far, Trump only spouts off at the mouth. He has not done anything!

I have heard Trump say he will expedite the legal immigration process not expedite illegals back into US. You have video to back up your claims?
******************************************************************************
Well, I have a FIRM memory of this and this element of Trump’s “plan” is one thing I disagree with. On some things, you just have to be willing to be perceived as “heartless”.

I think that if the US government finds someone here illegally and deports them, the government should get COMPLETE biometrics of them and make them INELIGIBLE to EVER return to the US legally. If however, the person is here illegally, reports him or herself, and agrees to voluntarily leave and pay the expense of the “move”, the government should still get COMPLETE biometrics of them but they can remain eligible to APPLY (just like everybody else overseas) to immigrate but with no guarantees that they would ever be accepted/approved. Just like anyone else is NOT guaranteed the right to immigrate into the US.

He makes great deals using the power of eminent domain to get his way. That's a form of governance, albeit under the table.

This is one of the most absurd things I've read on Free Republic.

Then you apparently haven’t research Trump much.

Let’s see...Obama just issued an illegal EO for gun control.

Trump is for banning ‘assault’ weapons and extending wait time, both of which are illegal gun control policies.

Nope...not much difference!

It looks like Cruz got his pollsters to get feedback from his last debate performance. They must have found that all those weasel words Cruz used during the debate and in the interviews afterwards about whether he would deport the illegals or not was hurting him. My trust in Cruz to really do something about the illegals went down considerably after watching that. He’s still my second choice after Trump, but now a very distance second.

Trump often speaks in half sentences and it is his own fault for being misunderstood at times. I suspect he has always spoken that way and isn’t likely to change. His written policy statements on his campaign site help make it clear what he intents.

I honestly believe Trump will go much further in ending the illegal alien problem than anyone one else and that he is the only one that is forceful and independent enough (not beholding to donors) that can. We must permanently fix the illegal alien problem and Muslim security problem or all else is for not!

I agree with you, if they come here illegally they have ended any chance of ever coming back even to work under work visa, but no one is going that far. At least Trump is saying no path to citizenship for illegals.

I use the word conservative referring to Trump all the time, in that his policy objectives are the most conservative of anyone running. I will continue to do so unless that changes.

Speaking of records and past positions, here’s Ted Cruz’s record of supporting legalization, which he now lies about:

Sure go watch video GrouchoTex posted in #188. And that is not the only time he has said it either. He also said in that video, “no citizenship for any illegals” how could he be any clearer?

Interesting that Cruz would fire a first shot at Trump.

So far, no one has survived a first shot at Trump.

Cruz must feel invincible.

Guess we’ll see.

Oh BS CJ, there many hardworking mexicans here doing skilled labor jobs because there is a shortage of skilled American labor to do those jobs. Many have been living here for many years and are law abiding. I would welcome them back if they are documented tax paying citizens. The culture in the past was to come here to the states and start a new life and we, this country, our government, allowed that to happen without consequence . Had been that way for a hundred years or more. Along with that good group are also some undesirables, Those are the ones we don’t want let back in, the gang bangers and drug dealers, the rapist, the thieves they need to stay out but there are thousands of hard working law abiding mexicans I would be proud to call a neighbor.

...
“there are thousands of hard working law abiding mexicans I would be proud to call a neighbor.”

What? This has nothing to do with “a matter of being proud to call someone a neighbor.”

Thousands of hard working, law abiding? More like millions...the media keeps saying 12 million, other sources say 30 million. Yet I read that TWENTY-SOMETHINGS ARE RETIRING?!?! First, if they came here illegally, they broke at least one law. Others waited years to come here LEGALLY.

We have to put legal citizens to work before allowing work to go to illegal aliens. When I read that 20-somethings are “retiring,” I know we have a huge problem...20-somethings retiring?!?!?! They haven’t even worked!

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-01-04/yellen-s-job-puzzle-why-are-20-somethings-retiring-

One obvious point**:
“The labor-force participation rate is still below estimates of its demographic trend, involuntary part-time employment remains somewhat elevated, and wage growth has yet to show a sustained pickup”

**And we know the reason for this...

Let’s see...

Trump wants to ban ‘assault’ rifles and increase gun buying wait times. Trump is pro-gay marriage. Trump claims to be against abortion, but also says that the choice is between the woman and her doctor. Trump was pro-amnesty until last year, even going as far as criticizing Romney in the last election for being too harsh on illegals. Trump was a democrat, voted democrat, and financially supported democrats for over 30 years, including Trump’s recent support for gun-grabber McAuliffe!

There is NOTHING conservative about Trump or his positions!!

Yes, I agree, we need to put legal citizens to work, but, we need workers who are trained or willing to be trained. Welding and pipe fitting are not OJT jobs. All that is needed is basic elementary math skills and willingness to learn for a good paying job and a willingness to actually work and not be strung out on drugs or on the smart phone doing facebook. That is what this country is facing today, unskilled, untrained applicants afraid and unwilling to get their hands dirty.
