Delivering on its promise to deliver "common sense" gun control, the Obama administration on Monday finalized a rule that enables health care providers to report the names of mentally ill patients to an FBI firearms background check system.
The action was one of a series of steps that President Barack Obama had called for in January 2013 in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., shootings to curb gun violence, but the rule was not published until today.
While the 1993 Brady law prohibits gun ownership by individuals who have been involuntarily committed, found incompetent to stand trial or otherwise deemed by a court to be a danger to themselves or others, federal health care privacy rules prohibited doctors and other providers from sharing information without the consent of their patients.
Under the rule, which takes effect next month, for the first time health providers can disclose the information to the background check system without legal repercussions.

I believe that story only if she had made threats to herself or others. You would likely not know is she had.

??? The information obtained during psychiatric proceedings is divulged in courts of law and the patient subjected to involuntary short-term commitmemt all the time.

She made no threats. I got the story from the clerk at the counter; she came in crying after notification from the CA Dept of [no] Justice, DOJ.
Another friend, treated for depression due to injury resulting in loss of job, and no subsequent help from state disability, was visited by ‘dressed out’ DOJ who inspected his whole house (at about 9 pm - freaked out his wife) for any guns / gun stuff.
He had already sold all. Showed them his empty safe.

Since when does a rule trump a law?
Is it mental illness to believe you are a monarch and the American people your serfs if the other two branches of the government do nothing to disabuse you of the notion?

Don’t forget, veterans since Vietnam have been characterized as mentally and emotionally unstable.
This is EXACTLY what Stalin did——just got his flunkies-—anyone—it could be doctors, neighbors, etc to spy and report to the government and then without due process (lying doctors, etc.) they put people who did not “think” correctly (like fascist pigs) in prison and the gulag.
“Mental Illness” is the Trojan horse. You are destroying patient privacy (unconstitutional) and you are destroying “trust” between patient/doctor —creating a fascist system where evil people can be masters of life and death with NO DUE PROCESS——Guilty until proven innocent///

You're crazy if you go to a psychiatrist.
Now all they have to do is redefine mental illness, and presto....they can control who gets or keeps their guns.
They already did. Homosexuality was considered a mental illness up until the 80’s or so.
The clinical diagnosis for anything can change dependent on the thoughts of the day.
Dangerous times.
The outcome here is fewer liberals with mental disorders will own guns, and they will find themselves defenseless against criminals.
