Ted Cruz says Bill Clinton not an issue in presidential race
Dallas Morning News ^ | 12/30/15 | Gromer Jeffries

Ted Cruz says he won't use former President Bill Clinton's political liabilities against Democratic presidential contender and former First Lady Hillary Clinton.

"I am not interested in getting into personal attacks and innuendo," he said Tuesday at a news conference in Cisco. "Hillary Clinton’s biggest liability is that her policies are a disaster."

New York businessman Donald Trump, the frontrunner in the Republican race for president, has used Twitter to black Bill Clinton as abusive to women.

"If Hillary thinks she can unleash her husband, with his terrible record of women abuse, while playing the women’s card on me, she’s wrong! Mr. Trump said Monday via Twitter.

Cruz says he won't engage in such attacks.

Instead, he outlined how he would contrast himself with Clinton, should he get the Republican nomination for president.

"Because of the Obama/Clinton economic policies, millions of Americans are hurting," he said. “We have the lowest percentage of Americans working since 1977."

He added that "the Obama/Clinton foreign policy is terrible because of the strengthening of Iran and the rise of the Islamic State.

"That is a record that is substantially indefensible," he said.

Not that you would know much about it, since you're definition of Christian is anyone who can pull off the televangelist tone of voice while they talk God and the need to get as much money out of you as possible.

I feel for you, bro. It must be quit a burden to bear to be as omniscient as God Himself.

As for me, much less gifted than anything like that, I've known what it is to be a lost sinner on the brink of self-destruction, and then to be met with the saving grace of Jesus Christ. It had nothing to do with TV preachers and everything to do with the relentless Hound of Heaven speaking through the Scriptures. Soli Deo Gloria.

Peace,

SR

Had you read Cruz's actual statement, you would be better informed. Cruz said that, while Bill Clinton is not himself the issue, Hillary's covering -- if not support -- of her husband's womanizing is the issue.

I read the article and saw no such statement, which, if it actually existed, would certainly vindicate Cruz. The only statements therein is that Cruz will "not engage in personal attacks and innuendo," which does not look good for him.

This is so amusing. Cruz doesn’t do personal attacks. It isn’t pretty and he knows it.
Trump takes everything personally. Doesn’t even know it isn’t in the public interest not to and willing to set the lowest bar for American culture.
Go Teddy Go!!!!!

Meanwhile, millions of normal people who don't have their heads rammed up their butts are cheering Trump for speaking truth to power.

Nice guys finish last in politics. The chumps need to realize that.

Cruz is developing rules of engagement which remind me of the ones Obama gave to our military.

Ted, this is war. Hillary must be destroyed by whatever means necessary.

This is not about the high road, this is about saving the frikken country.

You have to be willing to fight the way your opponent fights, Ted. This is why Trump can beat the Clinton machine and I’m afraid you can’t.

I for one do not have any respect for the candidate who has built an entire campaign off throwing insults.

The duping of Freepers into supporting a less than conservative candidate is the strangest event in our history.

Come fall 2016, after Trump takes a left turn in the general election, I 'll be here to remind!!!!!!!! Trump and Hilary in 2016? The year of the sleaze.

I post an opinion that differs from you and you personally attack. I now know what the Trump supporters meant about Cruz supporters and I am sorry. Politics is fun. I am sorry Cruz is losing. I am sorry his supporters here are so miserable. Hope you feel better soon.

I’m NOT a Trump supporter....yet....I may be, but I was stating a fact....Ted doesn’t put the fear of God into Hillary.

Not saying you are a supporter, just voicing my frustration. IF someone had told me 10 years ago Trump would have a huge following at FR, I'd called them crazy. The man was a dimocrat only 6 years ago, and it is my perception he can and will change his mind on a turn of a dime.

Buyer beware as it is always called.

You make Cruz out to be timid. You don’t remember his bravery and standing in the halls of the capitol facing off both the dims and GOP(e)? That unpopular stance showed me principle and grit. To me he is more Mr. Smith goes to Washington than Timid Timmy.

bubba is not an issue, but bubba is a weak point for attacking the hillary flank. if that flank is turned, she is in bad trouble when her issues are in trouble

earlier, I suggested the timing was bad for attacking hillary via the bubba weakness. I have rethought that and concede it is prudent to proceed now. there are endless bubba issues to be raised that are unknown by those <40 . It seems unlikely, but it is possible she might be primaried again. with a comfortable lead, it is better to kill hillary than damage the party.

lastly there is the “I” word, the “I” issue. bubba was the only modern president to be impeached. hillary is unfit because she aided an abetted an impeached president

I agree with Cruz's sentiment on this. Bill Clinton is not running and his personal life is not relevant. Seriously, should Hillary divorce him to run for president?

Aside from engaged Republican voters, such as here on FR, I really do not think anyone else in America cares. Using Bill Clinton to beat down Hillary Clinton may give cheer to some people but will not win the majority of Americans necessary in November and may backfire on Republicans. Bill Clinton continues to be highly regarded and respected by many Americans.

On a final note about this, I am always unsettled about this whole matter when reflecting that the very people leading the attack against Bill Clinton were, themselves, carrying on their own affairs and perversions. Gingrich, Hastert, and Helms, and others come to mind.

Trump is busy demolishing Clinton’s big talking point “Women! Vote for me, I am a woman too, I understand your problems”. Trump is cauterizing that attack line by pointing out Clinton’s real “War on Women”.

What ever one may think of Trump, the GOP should be grateful for how far to the GOP’s side he is pulling the Overton Window.

The Overton window, also known as the window of discourse, is the range of ideas the public will accept. It is used by media pundits.[1][2] The term is derived from its originator, Joseph P. Overton (1960–2003),[3] a former vice president of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy,[4] who in his description of his eponymous window claimed that an idea’s political viability depends mainly on whether it falls within the window, rather than on politicians’ individual preferences.[5] According to Overton’s description, his window includes a range of policies considered politically acceptable in the current climate of public opinion, which a politician can recommend without being considered too extreme to gain or keep public office
