Ted Cruz says Bill Clinton not an issue in presidential race
Dallas Morning News ^ | 12/30/15 | Gromer Jeffries

Ted Cruz says he won't use former President Bill Clinton's political liabilities against Democratic presidential contender and former First Lady Hillary Clinton.

"I am not interested in getting into personal attacks and innuendo," he said Tuesday at a news conference in Cisco. "Hillary Clinton’s biggest liability is that her policies are a disaster."

New York businessman Donald Trump, the frontrunner in the Republican race for president, has used Twitter to black Bill Clinton as abusive to women.

"If Hillary thinks she can unleash her husband, with his terrible record of women abuse, while playing the women’s card on me, she’s wrong! Mr. Trump said Monday via Twitter.

Cruz says he won't engage in such attacks.

Instead, he outlined how he would contrast himself with Clinton, should he get the Republican nomination for president.

"Because of the Obama/Clinton economic policies, millions of Americans are hurting," he said. “We have the lowest percentage of Americans working since 1977."

He added that "the Obama/Clinton foreign policy is terrible because of the strengthening of Iran and the rise of the Islamic State.

"That is a record that is substantially indefensible," he said.

“Cruz’s position here is merely good politics.”

By telegraphing to Hillary that the “war on women” trope is cool to trot out because Bill’s past is OFF THE TABLE?!?

“However... that works only in the short term. Cruz is far more strategic in his thinking and actions. As someone with a superior intellect to the rest of the field in both parties, he views the situation several steps ahead of the present.”

*Facepalm*

Everything Cruz does is a brilliant move....because you’ll see?

I said he views the situation several steps ahead of the present. Not sure why you're translating that into "everything Cruz does is a brilliant move..."

“He is correct. And the GOP are fools if they make it an issue. “

Remember when we used to complain that the GOP never stayed on offense and kept on the white gloves?

Trump is my #2, but on threads like these, I get the feeling that only frontal assaults will do for most Trump supporters. Ted's strategy has him in second place...for now.

iMO, Ted's playing Jedi mind tricks with Hillary.

“Its twenty year old news.........”
(Bill Clinton vs women scandals)

And that is how Hillary’s media mice will format any
criticism of her ‘women as victims’ message. The
trick is to keep the focus not on what Bill did but
how Hillary worked to keep the scandals quiet
further victimizing the women Bill assaulted.
My money is on the GOP not picking up on this
important aspect but if any candidate staff would be
smart enough it would be that of your “buddy”,
Trumpy.

That’s not an answer. That is wishful thinking.

This was a seriously stupid move up there with “no one wants to hear about your damn emails”.

Like he "folded" while taking fire from both parties who blamed him for shutting down the government in 2013?

Cruz said BILL Clinton isn't the issue... he didn't say he wouldn't attack Hillary's treatment of those victimized by him.

Then I guess McCain was freaking Yoda when he took everything off the table.

I understand what you are saying here and agree with that principle....but I firmly believe that we are at the point in this nation where there is NO political solution for our situation. Our root problem is spiritual. I will vote and do my duty as a good citizen, but I will join all of my Christian brothers and sisters in praying and looking to God for the REAL solution to our problems.

“Hillary’s enabling is the issue. She can’t have it both ways.”

Apparently Cruz is perfectly fine with Hillary having it both ways, though.

What folks are trying to do is take his statement at face value, with no regard to what he DIDN’T say. Did Cruz say he’d take Hillary’s treatment of Bubba’s victims off the table? Did he say he wouldn’t broadside her with her hypocritical statement that victims should be heard? Point is.. he can destroy her on the subject without even bringing up Bubba’s name. That is hardly “wishful” thinking.

The Clinton’s brought reality TV to our White House a lot earlier than 20 years ago. I’ve seen every disgusting part of it as it’s been thrown at us along with their defining deviancy down tactics, among many, to destroy this once great culture in order to destroy the country

It began with gennifer Flowers and here we are again expected to buy into Hilary’s persona of the courageous wronged women standing by her man claiming to be at the same time a feminist

The Clinton’s will have people think that people who enjoy this fight are trashy voyeurs.

The thing about the Clinton’s is you have to observe. Like a good mom catching on to Eddie haskell’s deal, think about it

What people enjoy is the admission that Hillary is ok with the sleaziness, calling it sleazy, and looking forward to the next round of more important issues

To give up in this qualifying round is political suicide

The fight with the Clinton’s is going to be a backyard money-on rooster fight

Everyone will choose a side even by default

McCain took everything off the table in the general election vs. his political opponent. Cruz has merely said he doesn't see the past record of the spouse of his POTENTIAL general election opponent an issue. The two situations are broadly different.
