Melissa Klein, the owner of the bakery that refused to bake a cake for a homosexual wedding ceremony, has revealed that the state of Oregon seized all of her bank accounts weeks before she planned to pay the settlement from the suit brought against her by the couple.
According to Fox News, Klein and her husband were hit with a penalty of over $135,000 in July payable to the lesbian couple who cited "emotional suffering" for the mom-and-pop bakers holding to their Christian beliefs. The state, ignoring the couple's religious liberty, agreed and said the small business, Sweet Cakes by Melissa, couldn't discriminate against the rights of LGBT customers.
The Kleins quickly gained support for standing up for their own rights and began receiving donations which were kept in a separate account from their personal banking in order to pay the settlement. But in the weeks before Christmas, Mrs. Klein was shocked to find out that Oregon's Bureau of Labor and Industries had confiscated all the money in all of her accounts.
"It was like my breath was taken away," Melissa Klein said to Fox's Todd Starnes. "I panicked. Everything was gone."
"We had three accounts," she continued. "I have one account that's labeled, 'God's money' - our tithing. They just took it."
An attorney for the couple said the fight is not over and the couple "will continue to work to ensure that every American has the First Amendment right to express their faith-based beliefs, and to conduct their daily affairs according to their conscience."
There are lots of them. I hate to admit it, but when I’ve got enough in my account to pay the month’s bills, I withdraw a sizable amount and it goes in the top of my gun safe. Call me paranoid if you wish.
I take offense because these two women are friends of mine. They adopted two small children, one of whom is autistic, from a woman who killed herself. They are kind-hearted and generous and I know for a fact they provide a loving and supportive home for those two unfortunate children.
There was due process, under Oregon law. We can all question the motivation of the couple who made the complaint and the fairness of the fine, but the hearings were held, the fine was levied, the administrative reviews were done, and when it wasn't paid then the bank accounts were seized. I don't think the Kleins have been well served by their legal counsel. At this point she is still "considering" appeals or taking the matter to federal court. She should have done that months ago and gotten the fine put on hold pending the outcome of those proceedings.
Why didn't they continue the fight before this? The fine was upheld in July. And their lawyer is talking about what they might do in the future? They should have been in federal court by August 1st.
Can’t argue with Mr. Bumble on that.
There is no other word for it.
They in fact are not “kind hearted” for what they’ve done to subvert religious freedom. I’ll bet they adopted the children as a kind of “show adoption” just to continue being the change agents they are. So take offense and go back to DU or Salon!

if they were kind-hearted and generous (to say nothing of being sane), they would realize that destroying someone’s livelihood over ‘emotional anguish’ because a business refused to bake them a specialized cake is anything but ‘kind and generous’...

Oh I see they are wonderful. So much so they have destroyed a families livelihood, had their money stolen from them because theY had beliefs. Screw them crotch crunchers and their beliefs. Just because they want to make a point they have destroyed something that was good AND NORMAL.
Couldn’t leave it alone and move on down the street to get their cake! The dildo jockey’s need to accept the fact hat there are other beliefs THAT ARE NORMAL and not perverse.
