Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) is expected to endorse Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) for president when he campaigns with him in Iowa next week, Townhall.com reported Saturday.
The influential South Carolina lawmaker will attend town hall rallies on Tuesday and Wednesday during Rubioâs three-day tour through the important caucus state, the Rubio campaign said in a press release Saturday.
"Marco is a rock solid conservative and a strong leader we can trust,â Gowdy said in an accompanying statement. âI look forward to campaigning in Iowa with him, and introducing my good friend to voters across the state."
A Rubio campaign aide told CNN that Gowdy will offer Rubio his "full support," but stopped short of saying it will be an official endorsement for president.
Gowdy will make appearances at town halls in Clinton, Sioux City, Pella, North Newton and Boone.
The three term representative is best known for leading the House investigation into the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack, in which he presided over testimony from former secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Gowdy introduced Rubio at several events in his early-voting home state last weekend.
He has also co-hosted town halls in South Carolina with Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), which were attended by Republican primary candidates Ben Carson an...

Trey.........
.....meh
Will trump pull his AG offer?
Will trump pull his AG offer?
So he’s the one who put Hillary in prison? Wait, what?
wtf
So Gowdy is GOPe. Corrections welcome.
C’est Trey mal.
Well, I guess we have our answer as to where the Benghazi hearings are headed.
Must be sharing familiarities with the senior senator from his state.
Trey endorses Rubio.
Rubio gets walloped in SC.
Trey becomes irrelevant until Cruz-Rubio are elected.
Trey then become Attorney General.
Trey undoes the messes created by Holder, Lynch, and Obama.
I think Trump will offer AG to either Cruz or Christie. Maybe Gowdy would be a good candidate but he’s always smelled like a skunk to me.
Is Trey married?
I have learned not to let bad endorsements be my primary consideration for who is worthy of my support. Sometimes the reasons are obvious, like with Sarah Palin supporting McCain, Santorum supporting Specter, and Santorum supporting thing Sebelius for HHS. Other times, there are chits and agreements long agreed upon behind the scenes.
I am not willing to say that Gowdy is a RINO forever and ever because of this endorsement. He may have genuine fear and mistrust of Trump, and thinks that Rubio is the best chance of stopping him. Many of us found ourselves hopping on trains we didn’t like the last couple of times, when trying to derail McCain and Romney.
My guess is Gowdy is a conservative, but a go along get along conservative who doesn’t trust Trump, doesn’t like Cruz’ approach, and figures Rubio is the best of what’s left.
No hero, but not worth primary-ing.
So Gowdy outs himself.
The beltway is like the Borg mothership.
Trey, Trey, Trey. You coulda beena contenda. You coulda beena Tourny Genral. Whadaya thinkun?
Norm Colemans live and thrive in CONgre$$!!!!
Never fall in love with any politician.
They’ll break your heart every dang time in the end.
Some truths ring hollower than others.
RINO Gowdy will have to lay on his “country lawyer” schtick even thicker now.
Well that’s it, I’m a Senior Amnesty man now! Gowdy must know better and he’s done such a great job on Hillary!
Gowdy’s been quite a surprise with many of his recent political moves. Supporting Boehner, Ryan and now Rubio. Beltway disease is nasty.
