So you basically hate all of Jesus’s apostles? since they spent their whole lives proselytizing.

I don't think the Vatican document referenced here actually says that Catholics shouldn't seek to convert Jews. That "interpretation" came from an article on the subject in the New York Times (no surprise).

The basic point of the Vatican document was that Catholic proselytization of the Jews should be no different than Catholic proselytization of any other religious group.

So you think Matthew 28:19 should be stricken from the Bible. The part about going and making disciples of all nations. I used to be Catholic and know that Catholics like to keep it a personal religion. It’s much easier for them that way. The only think that keeps the Catholic Church maintaining its numbers is that 99% of Catholics are born into the religion.

I am a traditionalist Catholic. While I am not comfortable with forcing my religion on others,

Christians are just supposed to tell the Good News and it usually involves their personal testimony. The Holy Spirit does the "work". Man cannot regenerate another man's heart. Only the Holy Spirit does that.

Exactly, but those words will fall on deaf ears for most.
Such is these times we are living in.

Jesus came for His Jewish People first, before He settled for us Gentiles. We are obligated to carry the good news of Christ to Jews.

“The whole point here is to leave the Jews the heck alone.”

“33 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, speak to your people and say to them, If I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and make him their watchman, 3 and if he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows the trumpet and warns the people, 4 then if anyone who hears the sound of the trumpet does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. 5 He heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But if he had taken warning, he would have saved his life.

6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.” - Ezekial

“5 For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them. 6 But the righteousness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).

8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”

12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” - Paul, writing to the church in Rome

How do you address Jesus’s command in Matthew 28:19-20, the disciples’ words in Acts 4:18-20, and Paul’s various missionary journeys?

If you think decapitating is proselytizing, you need to do more research.

If there is no proselytizing, then lets face it there should be no Catholics or Christians. Where do you think the first ones came from?

I think you’re right....but that is not a new doctrine, so what is this document supposedly saying?

I guess I didn’t even see a direct quote from the document in the article.

Why shouldn’t we try to convert the apostates in the Vatican?

The article is confusing indeed. I would recommend reading the original source document that is linked in the article. I will warn, the original source is long and typical of theological documents, straddles many sides of the fence.

The Statement makes a logical argument.

"The covenant that God has offered Israel is irrevocable...

Since God has never revoked his covenant with his people Israel, there cannot be different paths or approaches to God's salvation.

This is an interesting point to consider, but ponders other questions. Should Christian not convert Jews willing to accept Jesus? Does Paul's warning for believers not to marry non believer not apply to Jews? Does this apply to Jews that have studied the new testament and rejected Christ or only to Jews ignorant to who Jesus is and his claims.

I hate it when you bother me personally. I hate it when you go to Muslim or Hindu or whatever countries and we have to send troops to save you. Other than that I could care less.

I’m polite when folks come to my door and sometime I take the pamphlets but always toss them into the trash.

I worship in my own way and its no ones business how I do it.
