On Monday, Weekly Standard editor-in-chief Bill Kristol tweeted out what the rest of the Republican establishment is thinking: better Hillary than Donald. Here’s the tweet:

Kristol isn’t alone. As I wrote at Daily Wire today, Politico’s Jeff Greenfield says, “If the operatives I talked with are right, Trump running as a Republican could well face a third-party run – from the Republicans themselves.†That follows last Thursday’s Politico column from former New Jersey governor Christine Todd Whitman, who compared Trump to Hitler and called him “evil,†and last Wednesday’s Politico column reporting that Jeb Bush’s aides “began looking into the possibility of making a clear break with Trump – potentially with the candidate stating that, if Trump were the nominee, Bush would not support him.â€

Correct, as far as it goes.
But you have to account for Trump’s tremendous popularity among people like ME - New York born and bred, lived in the Northeast my entire life.
Now, politically, I’m FAR to the right of Trump. Took the red pill and never looked back.
But culturally, man, I can’t get enough of Trump’s New York schtick.
The Kristol phenomenon is about a power struggle WITHIN the NY universe, not outside of it. The Neocons rose to influence with the Reagan Administration, but reached their peak with poor stupid W, and now, since for reasons I don’t completely understand, they feel their potential for a return to power threatened by Trump, they are considering switching sides.

Now? I'm sure they want their cut, BEFORE the cliff, but I'm no longer sure they're not rooting for the cliff (AFTER they get their cut).
I really, really believe that "conservative" vs."liberal", "red" vs. "blue" is over. The war is "Americans" vs. "globalists", and the globalists are winning.

I don’t think working class democrats are any happier with their party than we are and that is why many of them will support Trump.

In case you missed it, they died a long time ago, at least in principle. Their bodies continue to run for election/re-election but their souls have no intention of doing “conservative” work if they actually win.
Then what have they been looking at the last seven years?

The dumb thing is that Trump will side with them on a lot of issues.....which the base has not figured out yet.
They wouldn’t threaten to start a third party if Cruz was the front runner and there was no Trump, because although they don’t like him, Cruz has been granted club membership - begrudgingly. They will at least tolerate him.

They don’t plan to tolerate Cruz. They plan to co-opt him.
They know they wouldn’t be able to do that with Trump.
They will all be changing their underwear if Trump is elected.
Works for me. Go ahead and start a GOPe party. That’ll be a sure winner, get rid of conservatives and be Dem Lite.
