Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney on Friday slammed Russian President Vladimir Putin with whom GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump has expressed mutual respect.
"Important distinction: thug Putin kills journalists and opponents; our presidents kill terrorists and enemy combatants," tweeted Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts.
His tweet came hours after Trump again expressed admiration for the Russian leader during a television interview where he was pressed about Putin's efforts to silence political opponents and journalists.
MSNBC co-host Joe Scarborough pointed out to Trump during the "Morning Joe" segment that Putin "is a person who kills journalists, political opponents and invades countries."
The host appeared taken aback by Trump, who brushed off the remarks and responded by stating that Putin is "running his country and at least he's a leader, unlike what we have in our country."
"Again, he kills journalists that don't agree with him," Scarborough, a former GOP lawmaker, pushed back.
"Well I think our country does plenty of killing also," Trump said.

What makes a man resting on the dustbin of history think anything he has to say matters?
Trump has pounded Romney rightfully as a loser. Mitt walked away from the election with 2 months to go - he took a dive in the 10th - bastard threw the game.
The answer seem obvious. Like a darted RINO in the Serengeti, Romney makes his last attempt to stand as he falls silently back on the dust bin where he belongs.

There are ways to confront the thug Putin and the Russians about their policies and actions, but it is pure recklessness to be so bellicose in public statements. Trump, Cruz, and Paul have been more reasoned and rational.
Why people are so excited about Putin remarks about Trump and his response is beyond me. It is another tempest in a teapot.

My read Putin was putting down Mr. Lead from Behind Obama, by saying Trump is a leader.
Trump doesn’t want to indicate how he would react to Putin.
Shows class he can take a complement without insulting Putin, a bad move. Obama doesn’t know how to scare anyone but the GOPe weaklings like Ryan, Boner, and McConnell.
Obama at 40 percent approval, less than a year away from the next general, he is a lame duck.
If the Republicans started going after Obama that approval would be 30 percent, instead they threw in the Towel and gave away the country to the Lib Dems

We have always been “this”. We get excited about Putin because he is a genuine leader with his nation’s best interest at heart. He doesn’t give a ring-tailed red rat’s rear-end about the UN or what the rest of the world thinks about him or his actions. He’s also one tough bastard.
He’s everything Obama isn’t, and we like that.

I completely agree. Putin is a dictator who arrests and murders his opponents. He and his friends rob Russia blind and if anyone stands up to the corruption they are arrested or killed. As a freedom-loving American, I don’t consider that “leadership” and I want no part of a President who does.

I don’t remember Joe and Mika freaking out when the Communist Party USA endorsed Obama. Obama is just as bad as Putin, if not worse. At least Putin defends his country.
