Trump attacks Ted Cruz for not supporting ethanol subsidies
The American Thinker ^ | December 12, 2015 | Ed Straker

Donald Trump attacked Ted Cruz for not supporting ethanol subsidies. He said in Iowa on Friday, "Oil companies give him a lot of money, so he's for oil."

The thing about oil and gas is, it doesn't require big subsidies, because it's the cheapest and most efficient form of fuel for cars. Ethanol, on the other hand, does require big government subsidies, because it is highly uneconomical. Ethanol is much more expensive than oil and gas and, gallon for gallon, produces much less energy than gasoline. That's why the government has to hand over billions in subsidies to big agri-businesses to keep it going. And that's also why the government has to force oil companies to blend ethanol in with their fuels. Because without government coercion, oil companies wouldn't do it, and the price of gasoline would be substantially lower than it is now.

Additionally, ethanol actually acts as a corrosive on car engines. It slowly degrades car parts over time.

But the worst thing about ethanol is that not only does it require taxpayer subsidies, and not only does it raise the price of blended gas, but it also raises the price of many different kinds of foods. Ethanol is made with corn - a lot of it. And when a lot of corn production is diverted to ethanol, there is less corn available to use for food. Corn is heavily used as a sweetener in many food products. By raising the price of corn, the price of many different kinds of foods are raised.

That is what subsidizing ethanol gives us. That is what Donald Trump is for and Ted Cruz is against. Ted Cruz is starting to lead in some Iowa polls, and he's doing it without this kind of pandering...

Actually Cruz and Paul have called for a 3 year moratorium on immigrants from 34 nations that have ISIS and Al Queda presence. They are framing their position as one of potential terrorist, rather than making it about religion.

They were calling for this moratorium before Trump called for his ban on all Muslims.

You don’t know what you are talking about.

The ‘filler’ is 30% protein, is loved by animals, and is also a valuable export commodity.

Those interested in facts can find ‘ddgs’ in their favorite search engine.

So you really don’t see a difference between the government aggressively putting a viable industry like coal out of business and ending subsidies for boondogles like ethanol (and wind, solar, etc)?

Funny crop of conservatives we’re growing these days.

You sure have a lot of problems. You are either incompetent or exaggerating

I have an eleven year old Nissan PU and I've never had to buy a fuel pump.

My lawnmower(5 years old) is ok with up to E10 and E10 actually works better than straight gasoline because the E10 is fresher fuel. If you have old fuel it does not make any difference which fuel you are using, you will have problems.

I have also found that if you run all the fuel out of the tank and carb, and put fresh fuel in everytime you use it, you have fewer problems. I never buy more than 2 month supply of gas for the mower.

I just donated to the Ted Cruz campaign. I did so because our nation is at a cross road. Socialism, racism, Islam, and financial disaster are at our doorstep. In the last 8 years or national debt has doubled, employment and GDP are stale. I believe this generation will determine whether we go the route of Venezuela, Europe, or our Patriots, who fought and died for our freedoms again tyranny. My prayer is that you will look at our candidates carefully, vote, even in the primaries, as though your children’s and your grandchildren’s future depend upon it, because they do.

I support Ted Cruz, because he stands with our founding fathers and their dream. He is the real conservative candidate and his track record proves this. while I’m not asking you to donate to Ted Cruz, please consider supporting Ted. He is the Ronald Reagan of our generation.

Something else I'm noticing, the MSM is promoting Trump

With respect, I think you're the only person in America seeing that. What you're seeing is Trump artfully playing the MSM. The MSM simply can't resist.

In regards, to ethanol. Yep, Trump supports the ethanol program. He said it last night in Iowa. Honestly, though it's a position taken to win Iowa. Only way it'll change is to put Iowa late in the nomination process. Trump knows it a problem for Cruz, that's why he said it.

I don't like it, but understand as the stakes are high.

Go Trump!!!

Trump again shows himself completely unfit for the office.

Use of Ethanol in fuels is destructive across the board.

It is also destructive to the land, and to the availability of food crops at a reasonable price.

Trump the Democrat shows up every time he is bumped or scratched.

Yes, and the most curious part of Trump's quote emphasized: "Not a lot of evangelicals come out of Cuba in all fairness it's true. Not a lot come out, but I like him nevertheless," Trump said.

Huh? What in hell is he trying to say? Is he trying to be funny? That's funny?

Man. What a bad choice for America Trump is.

Cruz deserves enormous credit for saying he’s against ethanol subsidies. That takes real political courage given the important role Iowa plays in the nomination process. Disappointed in Trump, to say the least, for pandering on this issue.

By the way Hillary’s team thinks Cruz will be the GOP nominee. David Brock last night, Podesta today.

Cruz is against subsidies for any form of energy. He believes the free market should decide. I agree with him 100%.

>> “We’ve got grown ups on board” <<

There’s not an overwhelming compendium of evidence supporting that assertion.

Even the absurdest statements to exit Trump’s horn are pointed out as “evidence” that he is “The man for the job.”

.
Calling Ethanol a renewable source of energy is an incredible stretch at best.

It takes more energy to produce Ethanol than can be obtained by burning it. So, even if the energy used to produce it were itself 100% renewable (which it clearly is not) the assertion is a farce.

Now Trump is clearly pandering to his audience. Ethanol should not be subsidized. It also shouldn’t be mandated in gasoline.

Which proves that he is the sole candidate with moral integrity, and understanding of the disaster that Corn for Fuel has shown itself to be.

If you think building a real estate empire and taking care of ones family and employees and moving on to taking care of a country in trouble is not grown up then fine. Whatever
