Nothing's Gonna Stop Him Now: Why The GOP Can't Derail Donald Trump
Talking Poinsts Memo ^ | December 9ByLauren Fox, 2015, 6:00 AM EST | By Lauren Fox

There is a myth circulating in the beltway. The myth is that bombastic business mogul Donald Trump can be taken down if only a Republican donor were to write a big enough check, if only a fellow GOP contender were to attack him with a vengeance or if only someone, somewhere concocted the right campaign-combustion cocktail.

Pundits, pollsters, reporters and donors have been racking their brains in war rooms and newsrooms from Washington to Iowa since the summer trying to understand the best way to explain and then to solve the problem of Trump. Underlying most of the scenarios gaming out the GOP primary has been the universal assumption that, if they really wanted to, the GOP "establishment" could step in and put a stop to Trump.

It's not to say that Trump is going to win the nomination. There is plenty more action ahead, candidates to drop out and Trump stumbles to be had, but an organized campaign by the establishment isn't likely to be his undoing.

The notion that the "establishment" or the party's "adults" ultimately control the process has been around for a lot longer than Trump, an artifact of an older political era, when backroom deals and convention wheeling and dealing among party stalwarts would produce, often messily, a nominee. But the myth has persisted, perhaps because it rarely gets held up to much critical scrutiny in its own right.

With just two months until the Iowa caucuses, it may be time to recognize the reality that the myth has been obscuring: No strategic intervention is going to stop Trump now.

These people have big ideological blinders on - they see people who disagree with them as fanatics. Hitler was a fanatic - he wanted to kill every single Jew in the world. Keeping Muslims out is just immigration policy.

That’s what Rush once said, concerning the GOP changing.

He said that if the GOP had embraced the TEA Party instead of fighting the TEA Party every step of the way, the Republican party would have been an unstoppable force.

That scuttlebutt is out there...that if Yeb collapses and Rubio can’t close the deal they’re going to beg Mitt to come back out of retirement and save them.

I’ve seen a few comments on the super lib sites like Huffington, Buzzfeed, NY Daily news from people saying they are getting sick of all this “racist, Hitler, hate” tags Trump keeps getting. This is what I thought would happen, they are going so over the top with it that even the dense are seeing how ridiculous it’s getting. That is a good sign because try to imagine this going on for the next year, their name calling is going to be all but neutered in power which may be Trumps intention. He is playing the media for the fools they are.

Good catch.

100% true. About reporters, of both political parties.

Fox. CNN. Basically every single network.

(MSNBC morning show, is about the only place I haven’t see that yet)

Though Joe Scarborough did shut down Trump yesterday I think it was.

They’re not going to beg Romney, they don’t have to beg. I heard that clip on Rush today (talking head, don’t know who) that even if Trump wins the nomination, the Republican party will not accept it. They will run Romney again or someone of their own choosing, the electorate be damned. We were never supposed to understand that we don’t really count in our own elections, we’re just being led to believe we do.

I see very angry backlash in the next few months against the GOP-E.

Trump presents several unique difficulties. The nature of Trump's support is a major obstacle to derailing him from the outside. His supporters aren't fazed by his off-color statements.

Because most people agree that we should "bomb the shit out of ISIS" and are not phased by the word shit.

If off color words offend anyone in today's world, they must be driven crazy by face book, twitter, cable TV or having a drink at the local bar or club.

Was it Hastert? Been trying to remember who also.

“Lindsay Grahams the worst”

Indeed, he always says “ISIL”

Anyone with their head up Hussein’s posterior uses that term (and occasionally Daesh) instead of ISIS.

I’m phased by that word.

Just saying.

I completely agree with Trump, but just saying I don’t agree with that language and don’t think actually, we need to use it here on FR.

If Trump can overcome those obstacles...

Trump has already overcome every one of those pathetic "obstacles". It's why he's been leading the race since June, and why his numbers continue to rise while his opponents struggle to simply stay in the game.

The man is quite literally leading a bloodless revolution against the enemies of the republic. Trump is speaking for the rightful owners of this nation, which is why nothing the enemy does, can put a scratch on him.

As far as war coming, that may be. Thankfully, the good people of America have an embarrassment of champions to provide the sort of leadership that will be required to prevail - chief among them - one Donald J. Trump.

Joe Scarborough did shut down Trump yesterday

Scarborough didn't shut Trump down. He simply talked over him like a 'splody head lib.

No points.

Sh!t is being said on regular TV now all the time.

I’m sure they’d bleep it for Trump, but never Conan and some various sitcoms these days I don’t usually watch.
