Senate Democrats steamed over Ted Cruz’s hearing disputing climate-change science
Washington Times ^ | Wednesday, December 9, 2015 | Valerie Richardson

Posted on 12/09/2015 7:29:10 AM PST by Isara

Even before it began, Sen. Ted Cruz’s subcommittee hearing Tuesday challenging the accuracy and objectivity of the science behind climate doomsday scenarios drew a heated rebuke from Senate Democrats.

“We need to stop debating whether climate change is real. The science is settled, and Senator Cruz is out of touch,” said Sen. Tom Udall, New Mexico Democrat. “The American people want action. Most of Congress wants action. We need to work together and lead the world in...”

Mr. Cruz — the Texas Republican who heads the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Space, Science and Competitiveness — said at the hearing that “public policy should follow the actual science and the actual data and evidence, and not political and partisan claims that run contrary to the science and data and evidence.”

He cited predictions of climate catastrophe that have failed to come true, starting with Secretary of State John Kerry’s 2009 op-ed stating that, “Scientists project that the Arctic will be ice-free in the summer of 2013.”

A candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, Mr. Cruz said the Senate Democrats’ “prebuttal” to the hearing came as a “backhanded compliment,” adding that the Democrats “doth protest too much.”

...

Conservative columnist Mark Steyn described the libel suit filed against him by climate scientist Michael Mann, and accused “Big Climate” of bullying academics and researchers who deviate from the global-warming narrative.

“If you’re a real Nobel Laureate like Ivar Giaever, who won the 1973 Nobel Prize in Physics, or if you’re older, tenured and sufficiently eminent, you can just about withstand the Big Climate enforcers jumping you in the parking lot and taking the hockey stick to you,” Mr. Steyn said. “But, if you’re a younger scientist, you know that, if you cross Mann and the other climate mullahs, there goes tenure, there goes funding, there goes your career.”

"Settled science" is a concept that only exists in the corrupt and criminal world of politics.

Tagline material. Well stated.

Read it-excellent stuff indeed! God bless Mark Steyn, I could have read at least another 5 pages of that. I want to be sure I understand-is this a transcript of his words and actual presence before the committee, or was it read in his stead? Because if he laid into them in person, I’d have given almost anything to be there, although I know how very good congressmen are at staying in the invisible bubbles with which they surround themselves and never hearing or seeing anything which disturbs what they want to be true, and especially anything which disturbs their high self-regard.

3% Udall, 3% of Americans even give a darn. Probably because a good many of us know you’re a bunch of liars who have a huge financial stake in this climate change scam, not to mention an expansion of your tyrannical power over us peons.

Clive Lewis' whacko radio show made a compelling case last night that environmentalism (aka global warming, now climate change) is a belief system that has its roots in Nazism. That among the beliefs is that the planet is too crowded (thus abortion is encouraged), that man is squandering the environmental resources of future generations (thus the need to round up and kill undesirables so resources aren't squandered on them) and that any churches who do not preach from the pulpit the correctness of government environmentalism should be shut down (the Nazis shut down any churches that did not verbally agree with them).

It's all coming around again and environmentalists who don't get their way and going to apply the force of government to be sure they get their way. They are smelling victory and can't wait for a world where their will rules the planet.

Michael Mann

In August 1984 he went to the University of California, Berkeley, to major in physics with a second major in applied math.

Another study by Mann and Park raised a minor technical issue with a climate model about human influence on climate change: this was published in 1996. In the context of controversy over the IPCC Second Assessment Report the paper was praised by those opposed to action on climate change, and the conservative organisation Accuracy in Media claimed that it had not been publicised due to media bias.

From 1996–1998, after defending his PhD thesis at Yale, Mann carried out paleoclimatology research at the University of Massachusetts Amherst funded by a United States Department of Energy postdoctoral fellowship.

In July 2013 Mann joined in the Terry McAuliffe gubernatorial campaign, 2013, promoting the role of scientific research and technology in job creation.

“The rate of global temperature rise mayhave hit a plateau, but a climate crisis still looms in the near future.” By Michael E. Mann ...

Astounding! I hope he read this at the Congressional inquiry. We are beyond lucky to have someone like Mark Steyn come to the fore in all this. Towering intellect and wit such as his can only come around once every few centuries I would think ... and it is sorely needed at this moment in history.

Even though it is unfortunate that Steyn is being dragged into this lawsuit, his loss is all our gain who believe in free speech and rule of law. Our debt to him is as great as it is to the Founders of this country.

When you testify to Congress, you are asked to submit written testimony (usually on the order of 2000-5000 words) before the hearing. Then you are asked to summarize your main points in a 5-minute oral presentation. They are different in specific wording, but comparable in scope and subject.

"The science is settled...."

That's fine, except I remember the last time it was "settled science" ... the Global Cooling scare of the 1970s. They were all sure, then, that we were going to die beneath the freezing crush of glaciers before the start of the 21st Century. And it was the same bunch of "scientists" ...

That’s what they may think they’re going to get, but they are in for a huge and sad awakening. The whole world will bow before one man and the evil spirit which controls him, and the political beliefs of the left or anyone else won’t mean a hill of beans in that global system of worship. All these other things are just converging means to that end. If you’re around in that time, you will either take his mark and worship him, or die. All these other issues which the left (or right, or anything in-between) have been worked up about or thought they would use to run the world according to their lights, will have served their purpose and mean nothing anymore.

The best thing to do now is know that you won’t be there then, that’s priority number 1, because you will have been a part of the Blessed Hope.

Maybe if we tell the Goreons that illegal aliens and i-slamic invaders bring with them an earth killing carbon footprint we can solve two problems at the same time.

Replace Christmas Trees with the word mooslimes and Trumps ban would be a shoe in.

Just an observation.

....ahem...yeah...

You don’t get flack unless you’re over the target. Cruz CLEARLY is over the target and dropping bombs like there’s no tomorrow.

These climate-change fraudsters have outright falsified raw data stretching over several decades in order to mislead people into supporting their attempt to control even more of the world’s economy than they already do. That, plus the FACT that we are likely facing a Mauder Mimimum-like climate starting around 2030, tells me that the best public policy would be to at least ignore these people, and preferably to jail them at a facility somewhere north of the Arctic Circle.

Look at history and see how the Inquisition hounded and threatened Galileo for having the audacity to challenge the “settled science” that the sun and planets revolved around a stationary earth. Anyone who denied this dogma was a heretic. Today a Climate Change Inquisition is doing the same hounding and threatening anyone who challenges their “settled science” of global warming and labeling them “deniers”.

Democrats get their warmist ‘consensus’ by bullying scientists and threatening those who dare to stand up to them. Democrats take away grants, get people fired and tossed out of colleges.

That, aside from the fact that ‘scientific fact’ is NOT something we vote on... makes democrats look stupid.

Thank you. I know which way I will choose but the Evil One will first use seduction and promises of utopia to woo the many then attempt to use force on the resistors. The technology is already here to control our money. That mark of the beast may actually be a microchip implanted in us that contains personal info and access to our bank accounts. Instead of scanning our cards, the vendors will scan our foreheads to take out funds.

At first they will sell it as a convenience and a security need. Only after some say “no” will they turn to force.
