Why Ted Cruz won't slam Donald Trump
CNN ^ | 12/8/15 | Ted Schiefler

Posted on 12/08/2015 5:38:37 PM PST by VinL

Donald Trump's inflammatory rhetoric has invited the scorn of nearly every Republican presidential candidate with one notable exception: Ted Cruz.

As every GOP White House hopeful raced on Tuesday to issue harsh condemnations of Trump's plan to forbid Muslim immigration to the United States, Cruz made significant news by barely saying much at all. He disagreed with Trump — that's it.

"I do not agree with his proposals. I do not think it is the right solution," Cruz said in the Capitol. "The right solution I believe is the legislation that I have introduced."

This was only the second time that Cruz has created any distance between himself and Trump, who have pulled away from most of the pack in Iowa, where the two of them lead in polls. In a pair of new polls released Monday, Cruz and Trump alternated in the top position.

But Cruz's campaign has wagered that attacking Trump — who has shown tremendous political durability through all of his controversies — is a fool's errand, more likely to sink Cruz's numbers than Trump's.

So for six months, Cruz has bashed reporters for trying to bait him into shots into a conflict with the New Yorker, casting the media — and not Trump — as his foil. Even when asked for policy differences with Trump — which Cruz has said are at the heart of the political campaign — the Texas senator would not miss a beat before chastising reporters or encouraging "Republican-on-Republican violence."

It's a gambit that ...

“The right solution I believe is the legislation that I have introduced.”

Teddy, Teddy.......Teddy. That’s all you politicians do; propose another law that can get haggled over endlessly. Meanwhile, the hordes of middle eastern animals continue to arrive.

Yes—they want to cause a ruckus between D and C. But more the GOP-e, than the media, right?

Graham was all over Ted today to get him to denounce Trump. Gop-e’s been trying for months. But Ted knows that Trump limits all the GOP-e candidates, he wants Trump there.

As for Trump, the media asked if Cruz was now his main competitor- he said “no”— presumably, to avoid a confrontation.

You’re right- it seems there was more Ted might have done today; and you’re also right that Ted has an overall plan. Cruz is incredibly strong minded- Trump is incidental to Cruz’s plan.

It’s all above Iowa for Cruz— that’s the key.

The GOPe and the media is the same thing. Same financing, same goals.

It would be a big deal for Cruz *in the media* to ‘beat Trump!’ in Iowa but winning Iowa isn’t a big deal in itself.
Always better to win of course, but Iowa winners in the past haven’t had much to show for it in the end.

“But, Cruz did offer Trump a place in the administration - I think an ideal press secretary...”

NEVER! I don’t want to hear, “great, just great, really great, fantastic great, the best great, wonderfully great”, etc., from Trump for all of Cruz’s eight years as President. Please, NO! I could not stand it. I cannot stand to hear Trump now, and if he was president, I would never hear him give a speech. Give him some other job, please!

Sorry, I don’t know the precise wording. There is a thread in breaking or front page news, I believe.

Your right, Cruz didn’t explain that today— but my sense is, he thinks it’s a tempest in a teapot. For whatever reason, this Trump stuff today is unimportant.

I heard -4th hand- rumor— that Van Plaats is fixing to endorse him Thursday.

The fact that Cruz won’t attack Trump is driving Trump crazy. Too bad.

I think it’s very big this time around. Donald is leading in all the polls, Cruz wins Iowa, it throws into question the polling-—and shows Trump isn’t inevitable- it puts Donald in a new mindset— and it gives Cruz momentum going into his stronghold.

.
Cruz is as good as elected President.

He has a virtually clear path ahead to victory with Trump looking at an insurmountable 40% vote ceiling, an Cruz the likely ultimate recipient of the remaining 60%

Who in the history of American elections has ever gotten the endorsement of the Rabbinical council?

This is the view to the finish.

I had to reincarnate due to the bashing in the past. I was too passionate at calling out that 2 candidates and their vps were all crappy. I may have used some racist, bigoted and anti denomiational words to fully express how unhappy I was with the uniparty before it became more mainstream. So I got the death penalty.

It will be a very heated discussion just between the conservatives (social vs economic). Throw in this populist/nationalist and I expect lots of lightning before its over.

A Cruz/Trump or Trump/Cruz ticket is going to mop the floor with Monica Lewinsky’s boyfriend’s wife. She’ll be laughing hysterically all the way to the funny farm.

Best place for Trump in a Cruz administration is as the head of HUD.

When the spotlight starts to fade, Trump is pretty clever at getting it on himself again. If you get in the middle of it, you drive his numbers up and yours down. Cruz is too smart for that. Plus, I think he likes Trump even though competing with him.

{”I may have used some racist, bigoted and anti denomiational words to fully express how unhappy I was with the uniparty before it became more mainstream”}

LOL!! I’m sorry I missed it.

For about the last 10 years I was heavily involved in my business. After 2008 it was challenging for sure. I didn’t get to check FR too much. No doubt I would have gotten bloodied covering your back.
