Donald Trump, the Kevlar candidate — invincible despite hostile media
The Washington Times ^ | 12/2/2015 | Jennifer Harper

Posted on 12/03/2015 8:39:05 AM PST by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

Even the pollsters now wonder if Republican front-runner Donald Trump is made of Kevlar, Teflon or maybe tempered steel. Despite the efforts of an unfriendly news media and hostile political operatives, Mr. Trump continues to best the competition on both sides of the aisle. Trump is Trump; he is a candidate who ignores polls and embraces candor, humor, nerve, verve and occasional bombastic insults. Republican voters stand by him. Why is this?

"Millions of Americans who are currently supporting Donald Trump may not even be too thrilled with him as a person. They are supporting him because they feel he could be a person capable of turning the country around. They are also supporting him because they don't have confidence in America's current leadership," says Frieda Birnbaum, a New York City-based psychologist and author. "Supporting Trump is a means to vent their frustration on the establishment. America appears hungry for strong leadership, and for right now Trump is fulfilling that need."

He also appears to articulate what big blocs of voters are thinking at any moment. As case in point, here is a sample description of President Obama's strategy on Islamic State to Fox News:

"He doesn't know what he's doing. We have someone who doesn't know what he's doing. Every time he sends troops over, even if it's a small number, like he's sending another small number. He announced 50 last week. He has a press conference to inform everybody he's sending troops, and it's like they have a target on their back. If you do your job, do your job. Don't talk about it. Too much talk," Mr. Trump told the network Wednesday.

I had zero problem with Ronald Reagan divorcing his first wife. People can grow apart. Circumstances and needs change. Many times it works better for both to dissolve an unhappy marriage.

The more I get to know Trump and read about his past and present, the more dangerous I think he is to conservatives and American liberty.

Take mass deportations, for example. The plan of having a large, government-run exercise to forcefully root-out all illegals "immediately," would mean checking every person, particularly brown folks who may or may not be Mexican, for their "papers," forcing them onto a bus, and shipping them down to Mexico.

Anyone who honestly believes that can be done without race wars and bloodshed is living in a pretty little doll house with unicorns in the back yard.

I see right here on FR Trump supporters who WANT that, yearn for mass deportations, because they WANT a confrontation. They seem to lust for a fight; Trump seems to be playing like the showman he is to that lust for vengeance.

Cruz, meanwhile, speaks of a genuinely conservative and common-sense approach to the illegal immigration problem, using straightforward language such as "I categorically oppose amnesty,""We know how to solve this problem, and we will end sanctuary cities, we will end welfare for people here illegally, we will end catch-and-release and we will deport criminal illegal aliens," and "when illegal aliens are apprehended, they should be deported."

Trump supporters immediately latch on to "deport criminal illegal aliens" and wrongly jump to the conclusion that it means he doesn't intend to deport non-criminal illegals; if they actually sought truth, they would know that the "criminal illegals" Cruz is referring to are the convicted violent criminals from Mexico who were brought to the US and dumped here during the Obama administration.

Trump's solution calls for a whole lot more government force. Cruz's solution, wise, sensible, and conservative,, depends on government resources already existent. But Cruz's solution doesn't satisfy the lust for vengeance that so many angry Americans are sadly becoming submissive to. Trump plays to that anger and lust.

I sure pray folks wake up in time. Trump's political record is purely 100 percent political left-leaning MODERATE with a penchant for government "solutions." The ONLY reason people believe he's brilliant is because he has used the MSM to craft that brand image of himself over the past 10 - 15 years, but it was so skillfully done that people actually believe the only reason they know of Trump is because of his "great accomplishments," as if the millions of Americans with much greater accomplishments but whom they've never heard of, don't exist.

“Mass deportations” would happen merely by dealing with the numerous instances of police and official contact that happens with illegals. “License and registration, please” is a standard request by people lawfully stopping traffic law violators, and this happens with 100’s of thousands of illegals every year. The fact that we have been made AFRAID to treat illegals like everyone else, and feel pressure to give them a pass, is the anomaly.

Yes. Plus add to it unless he take’s bambi’s position with the pen and phone thing congress would have to pass his agenda.

You are correct -- as is Cruz. Essentially, ENFORCE THE LAWS ALREADY ON THE BOOK. It would result in the equivalent of mass deportations, but without the drama. It would be a drip-drip-drip, one by one, cumulative mass deportation of illegals being found through everyday law enforcement activities.

It seems to me that many people are so angry and desperate that they want an outright confrontation of instant mass deportation, a search-and-deport mission, and it seems to me that Trump is playing to that anger and desperation, and the solution of outright confrontation in a search-and-deport effort would certainly result in race wars and bloodshed. Great for TV. Bad for America.

Cruz's solution is the actual conservative one and the wise one that will work.

I would add that it is also necessary for the president to be an honest and honorable man.

Ideally we would have both competence and integrity in our leader. But if both were not present in the same man, would we prefer a decent, honorable man who always made the wrong decisions, or a self-centered stinker who made correct decisions? I lean towards the latter.

If Trump gets the nomination as I am sure he will, do you think the Cruz/Carson supporters will vote Trump or not vote at all? If they just don’t vote, do you think he has enough support from youth, Reagan Dems, etc to win the general?

I think that if the many Cruz supporters (of which I am one) seek to follow his fine example, they will not only vote for Trump, but vote enthusiastically, especially if he ends up being on the ticket as Trump's VP.

As for Carson supporters? I can't figure out what makes them tick, Carson is no doubt a nice guy, a very skilled surgeon by all reports, however he does not appear to be truly ready for prime time. I see absolutely no way that he overcomes both Trump AND Cruz to become the nominee. It would be in his best interest to gracefully bow out now and endorse Cruz (as I wouldn't expect him to endorse Trump, based on their past dust-ups).

As for Trump's appeal? He is showing remarkable ability to draw support from across the political spectrum regardless of party lines because there is a powerful undercurrent of disgust and disdain for our 'established' parties, and for the 'business-as-usual' crowd in Washington. Trump has tapped into that, and those voters in turn have tapped into Trump. I think he can win the general because he will absolutely eviscerate Hillary Rotten Clinton IF she becomes the nominee (which in my opinion is not a sure thing).

The difference between him and 90% of the GOP...
He fights back, down and dirty. And that's how you win.

Exactly right. We have seen the failed GOP campaigns of the past, beginning with Dole, then McInsane and finally Mitt-Witt. Many of us held our nose 4 and 8 years ago respectively because the alternative of that Kenyan sonuvabitch getting into (and continuing in) the White House was absolutely unacceptable as it should have been to any America-loving patriot.

But those are past wars behind us, THIS war in front of us is the one for all the marbles, it will determine if our Republic will be rescued from the brink, or if our experiment in freedom will end with the shadows of fascism blotting out the sun for all time. That MUST be prevented at all costs, by any means necessary.

How do, brother MK.. things are well by you, I hope?

Yes indeed Brother Hale, things are going ok, could be better but could always be a damn sight worse. Every day, I try to 'do my best' and 'trust Jesus for the rest'.

My best to you and yours.

Very good post...I agree.................Take a short listen to Cruz nailing 'Latino' Director of Ice.....it really is Obama's fox appointed to protect the hen house! Unlike Trump who's all talk, Cruz continues to "fight" and expose who the real enemies are to immigration...and they are "inside" our government.................. Furthermore she has no problem telling her agents to follow 'Obama’s orders' when it even when those orders violate the law as passed by Congress.....So we have a senior administration official, the director of ICE, saying that guidelines, directives from Obama trump the law!...... Video posted on following post....

Unable to speak for but a few...If Carson/Cruz should lose to THE TRUMP - there would be no problems in giving the vote to DONALD. If not for TRUMP most know that Cruz/Carson might not have come as far as they have down the road. If TRUMP is smart (and it is believed to be, he is) he will place these two men in his cabinet to work with him. Each man brings to the table UNIQUE abilities that TRUMP should need.

Good or Bad, Arnold got all the proposals he promised during his Campaign onto the Ballot. He mistakenly put his faith in the Electorate and he didn’t go out there and pound the Opposition enough.

The State Employee and Teacher Unions spent Tens of Millions to defeat those Proposals and they succeeded.

Arnold just gave up at that point. He said well, it’s the will of the People and that was that.

Had those Proposals passed, Arnold would have been a successful Governor, albeit a RINO in a True Blue State.

What you want and what you’re going to get will prove to be two different things if he wins. There’s only ONE Constitutionalist running ... and it’s not Trump.

...a self-centered stinker who made correct decisions...

... according to the Trump brand image achieved after 10 - 15 years of self-promoted rise via the MSM to celebrity status by using PR/advertising campaigns, how-to books, a 7-year-long prime-time TV show, and a natural flair for showmanship.

He sure made a lot of pretty dubious and stupid decisions only seven years ago, when he was saying:

"Hillary's a great friend of mine. Her husband is a great friend of mine. They're fantastic people. I mean, they're -- you know, the thing, they get a bad knock. She's a very nice woman. People think, tough, tough. And I guess she's tough, but she's a very nice woman. And he's a very nice guy. We know all about the smarts and how smart they are, and all, but they are good people."

AND ...

"I'm endorsing McCain. I am basically very strongly -- you have to understand, I've known him, I like him, I respect him. ... He's a smart guy and I think he's going to be a great president." Of course, now Trump calls McCain a "dummy" and insults him for his POW status with the flip comment, "I like people who weren't captured." Not only is Trump a "self-centered stinker," he is also by his own behavior an admitted cad.

How long has Trump been making "correct decisions" again?

Trump and Cruz seem to be on the same page with regard to the above. Maybe Cruz uses the kind of haughty, lofty politically correct niceties we are accustomed to hearing from our politicians while Trump just gives it to us straight and unfiltered. Note that Cruz is also talking about deporting people. In the past, many politicians have given us lip service but no action once elected.

Also, you seem to be buying the media narrative that Trump is going to load up freight trains full of Mexicans and send them to camps like the Nazis did to the Jews. Intelligent people can see through the media attempts to paint Trump as a fascist Nazi.

I spent a good portion of the morning watching the drilling of this Latino Director of Ice.....she should have never been given that position and is as treasonous as Obama is! She is all about integrating Mexicans and others into our country and certainly revealed that throughout this drilling....it’s estimated 2 Million CRIMINAL Illegals in this country.....and she was given millions more to deport them yet the numbers were less and less and less.....her excuses that countries won’t take them back...and “we can’t just drop them off”...is ridiculous.
