Donald Trump remains the clear Republican front-runner across the nation, and is defying the predictions of pundits again by gaining steam less than two months before the Iowa caucuses, according to a new poll.
Quinnipiac University's latest survey of Republican voters finds the billionaire businessman has risen 3 percentage points since early November and now stands at 27 percent.
Trump's bump comes after GOP strategists and members of the media speculated that his widely-disputed claim that "thousands" of Muslim-Americans celebrated the Sept. 11 attacks could create trouble for him in the polls, particularly with fellow Republican contenders Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio on rising swiftly.
"It doesn't seem to matter what he says or who he offends, whether the facts are contested or the 'political correctness' is challenged, Donald Trump seems to be wearing Kevlar," Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, said in a statement Wednesday.

Go Trump!
Trumps numbers have remained remarkably stable in the high 20’s for months.
The Doc is finally imploding as expected.
Cruz and Rubio are rising a bit, but trailing WAAAAY behind Trump.
Everyone else has no support.
I think your going to see him attack more on obuma and cankles as he gets closer to the primaries....he has come out in the past few speeches with some zingers....( I love it when he does that)....
GO.TRUMP.GO!!!
The ‘widely disputed claim’ that’s now been proven as factual...
I agree. The last few speeches he has let Obama and Hillary really have it. I love it, too.
Rove, Fox News, and WSJ are PISSED!
I think Trump numbers are under reported since lot of working class democrats like Trump too.
PING....
If Trump's use of the word "thousands" is factually incorrect, it's only because MSM reports of that day implied that it was so.
In the Pablo Guzman report, he quotes unnamed FBI "investigators" as stating that an entire apartment building is a "hot address."
Guzman also states that the mosque of Sheik Abdul Rahmann is located between two apartment buildings, both of which were "getting attention" (Guzman's words) on 9-11.
I actually heard that report on 9-11 (or perhaps 9-12), even though I don't live in the NYC media market. I - like millions of others - was glued to the internet, and Free Republic all that day, and probably viewed it on-line.
I commend Trump for his memory, because I had forgotten this. The man obviously has a tremendous skill for classifying and recalling the most important facts in any situation, which is a skill one might expect in a billionaire.
IMO everytime Carson drops a few pts Trump picks up his supporters and goes up a few pts.
Rubio and Cruz are duking it out for a distant second while Trump cruises to the finish line.
Agree!
Anyone heavily involved in reality show crap in the year 2015 is going to have a leg up automatically amongst certain groups. I bet he is huge amongst the 10 % undecided dim bulb crowd as well. Not because of any views he might express, just because of the celeb status.
Freegards
He's "The MAN with the PLAN"
Let’s praise the Lord and pass the ammunition. How wonderful to find a man who can and WILL FIGHT the Establishment. His speech last night was great. His answers to the questions were spot on and showed his depth of thought and concern for working Americans.
“Every little bit helps!” I don’t care where his supporters come from as long as he wins.
Meanwhile in France they’re closing down mosques...that should make a few liberal heads explode.
That's unexpected. I would have guessed that voters would trust the mainstream media and not their own memories of what happened. That's what the GOP elite expected and what the tame media predicted. How could they be wrong? Again?
I remember large crowds of Muslims celebrating, at least some of whom were in other countries. I remember smaller groups of Muslims celebrating, at least some of whom were in our country. I don't particularly care whether there were hundreds or thousands of Muslims celebrating in NJ. We know there were some celebrations in NJ. I'm a Cruz supporter, but the precise number of Muslim celebrants in NJ is not going to change my view of Trump.
How right you are. I remember overhearing a group of Democrats fussing and fuming over their drinks in the lounge of the Plaza when Reagan was running for reelection. The thing that upset them the most was that no matter what was thrown at Reagan, nothing would stick. He only needed to talk to the American people when he was wrong and all was forgiven. I chuckled to myself to see a group of grown men so apoplectic over something they couldn’t control. Trump seems to be creating the same scenario.
