Donald Trump has drawn the ire of musical acts like Neil Young, Aerosmith and R.E.M. for using their songs on his presidential campaign trail.
But it appears Trump has finally found an ally from the music industry in the form of Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider, who explicitly gave the billionaire mogul, who currently leads the Washington Examiner's presidential power rankings, permission to use their 1984 hit "We're Not Gonna Take It" as a campaign rally cry.
Snider told Canadian Business that Trump called and asked for permission to use the song, a gesture that he appreciated.
"I said, 'Look, we don't see eye to eye on everything — there are definitely issues that we're far apart on,'" he said. "But thinking back to when I wrote the song and what the song is about, it's about rebellion, speaking your mind and fighting the system. If anybody's doing that, he sure is."
Snider said that Trump and Democratic candidate and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders are "raising holy hell and shaking everything up" as representatives of two extreme ideologies, and those two embody the spirit of "We're Not Gonna Take It."
Trump and Snider have worked together in the past, with the former firing the latter on "All-Star Celebrity Apprentice" in 2013. The singer doesn't hold grudges now, and even considers Trump a friend.
"I have spent time with Donald and his family," he said. "I don't think either of us expected that we would like each other, but you know, Donald Trump is a pretty chill guy. He's a frontman. When that camera goes on, he furls his brow, he does his thing. Off-camera he's very self-deprecating. He makes jokes about being too orange and about his hair."
The 60-year-old rocker is no stranger to working around politics. Any fan of MSNBC has probably heard his voice quite often and didn't even realize it.
"I've done documentaries, commercials, I was the voice of MSNBC for a year," Snider said. "I was the one saying, "'Hardball' with Chris Matthews, tonight at 8 on MSNBC."
Horrible music.
LOL. Well played
“Permission to laugh at the noisy bitch, sir?”
“Granted.”
Had I ever serious taken up the electric guitar, I could see a FR screen name for myself of “Sick Repulsive Electric Twanger”. I think I still have my T.S. cassette tapes... somewhere.
You old? NONSENSE!
I can’t even visualize “Twisted Sister” but I know the song word for word....LOL.
I think that means Twisted Sister never appeared on American Bandstand during the good OLD days ...
You are aware that “Don’t Stop” is about losing one’s love, breakup and divorce, right?
Never knew anything about her politics, too young when I listened to FM anyways to care, but she had a unique and quite soothing type of voice lol. I only liked a couple of their songs though.
Coolidge is our fourth greatest Prez behind GW, Lincoln, and Reagan in “A Patriot’s History of the United States.”
I agree. However, many of these candidates are playing the songs without paying the royalty and hoping they get away with it which is theft. I am glad that many musical groups are fighting back. It is not any candidates right to steal from these musical groups at all.
Do a google image search. They had the most awful make-up, but they stuck with it.
I was not aware that candidates were playing songs without paying the royalties. I thought it was more the artists picking and choosing what candidates ought to be playing their music.
Y’all shoulda made up some special cadences just for her ...
No. Like all successful people, they like to be paid for their work. I can’t say that I blame them. It would be different if they paid and then the stars complain, but I think the candidates think they should be donated the songs. How silly especially from Trump who would NEVER allow someone to sleep for free at his hotels.
Where was it said that the royalties were not paid? I’m assuming that they were unless I hear otherwise.
Didnt John Fn Kerry adopt Prima's hit song for his campaign run?
Nary a clue if wrong or correct. That campaign was so many years ago - the water under the bridge has washed away many memories. Gore’s campaign tune would be better aligned with *Fire* by Arthur Brown *Old Black Magic*....perhaps best for the Won we now have at the helm.
GO TRUMP! GO CRUZ! ~ YOU WIN OR WE LOSE!!
Nary a clue if wrong or correct.
I'm disappointed, that obviously went right over your head.....LOL!
No, it did not -but it was seen to fly over yours. Have a great day, Tabby. Watch those alleys
TO TRUMP! GO CRUZ! ~ YOU WIN OR WE LOSE!!
All I really know is that I liked the Buckingham guitar work. Now I can’t listen to the song at all without that revolting flash back of the Clintons and the Gores trying to look hip on stage holding hands and embarrassing most of the people who saw them.
For what it’s worth she’s visited wounded warriors at military hospitals and gave them iPods. Granted, the devices were loaded with her music and most of the guys did not likely know who she was.
