The conference comes at a dire moment. The world has shattered record after climate record, with 2014 ranking as the hottest year in recorded history. The planet's glaciers are melting at the fastest rates ever seen. Underwater, coral reefs are suffering from an assault of bleaching, spurred by ever-warmer oceans.
All of these effects have prompted harsh warnings about the potential impact on humanity. Rising seas from melting glaciers could inundate some of the world's largest metropolises. Warmer summers could force the evacuation of certain cities that may see days with a heat index upwards of 170 degrees Fahrenheit.
And yet, there is still time to act.
Those attending the meeting hope to hash out an actionable strategy to limit emissions below a warming threshold that, scientists agree, would ward off the worst of the predicted threats. That level - 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) over pre-industrial temperatures - is a contentious number, but the conference reflects growing awareness that climate change is a very real problem.

Record after record? By who’s numbers? The so called climate scientists have demonstrated that they have zero integrity, falsifying data and research to reach foregone conclusions. I trust literally no one involved in climate science. No one. Publish all the data, all of it, right now. Publish all the algorithms and research methodology, right now. Publish all the raw data, as it comes in. Then let us independent scientists, engineers, and computer guys look it over. Then maybe, just maybe we might be concern about the climate. Maybe. Oh, and don’t try falsifying the data before you release it. Enough has already been published that it will be easy to tell if there are any statistical anomalies in you “raw” data. If you doctor it, we can tell.
It’s pretty darn cold in the western US.
Well, for one thing, it’s an utter waste of time and money.
For another, it’s yet another opportunity for bloated, self-promoting politicians to do a little more grandstanding.
Plus, of course, it’s a chance for an entire generation of deluded and corrupt scientists to get their snouts in the public trough at taxpayer expense.
Someone needs to keep track of the plane flights and cars these clowns are traveling in and total up the energy costs on that. Wouldn’t a teleconference, like most energy and cost conscious businesses do these days, be better and set a good example?
Of course, you can’t get away from wifey, buy $500 bottles of wine and $1000 french hookers when teleconferencing.
Global warming would be a good thing if it were happening. Crops would be in season longer, cities could save money on snow-clearing machinery, and if the sea levels rose, the Palestinians would all drown.
God has decreed that the climate is immutable, though, so that fantasy would never happen.
