Nineteen-year-old Katherine Beatham cannot wait to buy a gun.
The mother of two from Maquoketa, Iowa, already started saving up. She was browsing the selection of firearms at the Big Bore Enterprise Gun Show in Maquoketa last weekend. As soon as she turns 21 and takes a safety course, she plans to buy one.
"I'm just not going to be walking around, some poor old defenseless lady with two kids. Not in today's society," she said.
Beatham comes from a military family and started shooting at about age 5. She said she is a pretty good shot with a handgun but that she unfortunately cannot own or carry a gun due to her age.
When Beatham becomes of age, she -- like all Iowans who seek a permit -- will be given a background check. If she passes, she will join the more than 225,000 residents in the state who have been issued non-professional permits to carry weapons since 2011.
That year, a key change in the state's gun laws made it easier for applicants to successfully acquire a permit to carry.

Syrian “refugees” a coming???
You go girl!
Katherine sounds like a young lady with her head screwed on right.
Is that her real name? If so stupid.
Freerepublic need reform! We need to add LIKE buttons to posts.
Hmm..
"Just easily pop him in the kneecap. They're down. They're on the floor. You've got time to call 911," she said.
Hopefully she will get an instructor that will dispel this silly idea.
Unless she has some Zen like calm about her she like everyone else will have a huge surge of adrenaline when some huge guy jumps out of the shadows and attacks her unexpectedly.
With muscles twitching and heart pounding it is pretty hard to hit a four square inch moving target that a knee cap would be even at a range of ten feet.
I don't care if you want to kill your attacker or not when your life is in danger you aim for center mass and fire until the attacker is down or running away.
The attacker decided his life was worthless when he decided to threaten yours so waste no pity on him. He has none for you.
Your life is the most important thing you have and you don't mess around when someone is threatening the only life you have.
I gave both my daughter and son-in-law weapons. After making them get a decent gun safe, taking basic handgun course with class and range instruction, and obtaining a Georgia Weapons Carry License. I did the same thing with my wife, too.
When it comes time for my grand daughters, I’ll do the same for them.
I agree 100%. Besides the fact that if you think there is reason enough to shoot someone, there is reason enough to kill them, IMO. Secondly, this sounds calculating but in legal terms the cost of a life ended is less than crippling them for life in disability.
In the greater Dubuque area (where this was published), the problem is not Syrians (yet), but - as a broad generality - rather University of Diversity grads from Illinois crapholes. Catholic Charities and other "social justice" trojan horse operators have been importing them via the Highway 20 corridor for some years. In bygone days they usually went to Waterloo or sometimes Fort Dodge, but the kommissars in DBQ teamed with the progs in the Catholic church Kumbiyah Klub to peel off a big portion.
They commit various "acts of love" (hat tip to Jeb Bush) in a quite disproportionate manner, and thanks to very healthy SNAP, EBT, absentee landlord and Section 8 industries, only the seriously wealthy neighborhoods are deprived of the imported "vibrance" and "strength" that multiculturalism engenders.
Not that you will find any of that addressed in the TH article. The DBQ media isn't allowed to report on that sort of thing even if they were so inclined, which they are not.

Exactly.
I have no idea. I don’t know her.
—as I used to spend some time in SW Wisconsin in the spring and fall, I remember that some years ago, the Dubuque city council felt that there weren’t enough “minorities locally and attempted to recruit more from Chicago—how did that work out?
Two in the chest, one in the head. That should do it.
Sadly this is true. (I know I am going off topic here. Forgive me.)
I have met several people over the years that have detailed knowledge of exactly what they can and can not do and how much they can earn before they would lose their disability benefits.
People become very attached to their disability benefits.
Many seem to be willing to live a less fruitful life rather than surrender disability payments.
So I agree. Kill him Odell.
Swimmingly! All indications are that it has been a total success: lots more drugs, shootings have become commonplace, stabbings have increased to the point where they aren't usually even reported anymore, and in general, the police/criminal justice system is growing at a healthy pace.
The convenience store and cellphone industry is booming, as is the number of new (Section 8) apartments. The school system is now "busing" (but they don't call it that), both hospital ERs have more business, Planned Parenthood is now "planning" in a new location, the "no go zones" (for whitey) are growing, and there are finally enough people riding public transit to almost justify it. The prostitution nurtured by their two casinos is just icing on the cake.
If that isn't enough to convince people to pack up their bags and move to Madistan on the Mississippi, Dubuque is officially firmly committed to the UN's Agenda 21!

I have no idea-—but my given name isn’t all that wonderful, either.
