Poll: Trump [30%] retakes lead, Cruz [21%] surges in IA; Rubio second in NH

Donald Trump has returned to the lead in Iowa while Ted Cruz has now surged past Ben Carson into second place. Carson has slipped from a first-place tie into third.

Cruz's move has come directly at the expense of Carson, as nearly one-quarter of his voters switched.

In New Hampshire, Donald Trump keeps his commanding lead, keeping up support from conservatives, Republicans and the independents who say they're coming into the GOP primary to vote for him. This month finds Marco Rubio nearly doubling his support and pushing into second place -- albeit far back of Trump -- at 13 percent now, up from 7 percent, enough to edge past Carson and Cruz in the nation's first primary.

Which would hardly indicate the "solidness" of Cruz voters since the GROWING numbers means he's their SECOND choice if they've switched from supporting someone else.
I believe you misunderstand what is happening regarding growing support for Ted Cruz. Senator_Blutarski makes a very astute observation in Post #12.

It's not so much that Cruz is someone's second choice, but rather the reality is Cruz's numbers steadily move up because a huge majority of voters know little about him initially or have misconceptions. The more people learn about Ted Cruz and see him interact with people, the more he gains support.

It's happening just at it did in the 2012 Texas GOP primary for the U.S. Senate. When Cruz entered the race as an unknown, he stood at 2% in the polls. By the end of the campaign, Cruz defeated his very well-known GOPe opponent by 14 points (57-43).

The Democrats and GOPe watched this amazing rise happen and are well aware of Cruz's appeal and political skills. Why do you think they strive to keep him out of the public eye at every opportunity?

I agree. NH is a better indicator of things to come, based on last few elections.

Trump never left the lead. The truth is his real lead is probably being hushed.

All depends on one’s priorities. I think the immigration has just gone past critical stage. If immigration policies are not changed urgently, we are well on the way of becoming Mexico North. Illegals must be deported, all of them, to enforce existing laws. Why does any American would want to tolerate a lawless country?

Only Trump has the freedom to deport all illegals. Others are under control of their rich donors, and are not allowed to dismantle the cheap labor express.
