Columbus, Ohio (CNN)Donald Trump said Monday that he witnessed people jumping out of the Twin Towers on 9/11 from the view in his apartment.
"Many people jumped and I witnessed it, I watched that. I have a view -- a view in my apartment that was specifically aimed at the World Trade Center," Trump said Monday during a rally in Columbus, Ohio.
"And I watched those people jump and I watched the second plane hit ... I saw the second plane hit the building and I said, 'Wow that's unbelievable,'" Trump continued.
At least 200 people are believed to have jumped from the Twin Towers after planes struck the towers in an attack that claimed more than 2,600 lives.
The Republican presidential contender lives in Trump Tower in midtown Manhattan, more than four miles away from where the World Trade Center towers once stood. Trump has lived in the 5th Avenue tower since before the attacks, according to media reports pre-dating 9/11.
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment asking how Trump witnessed people jumping out of the Twin Towers from more than four miles away.
Trump on Monday also dug into his claim that Muslims in New Jersey celebrated the terrorist attacks on 9/11, a claim that has been widely debunked by multiple fact-checkers.

Of course you can see for miles and miles from New York skyscrapers. That was never the question, but rather whether one can see a falling human body from four miles away.

Trump just needs to explain that he was watching through binoculars. That, or quit making stuff up. I truly don’t know which is the truth.
And therein lies the problem with Mr. Trump.
He declared that the terrorists in the US were bad but that the Palestinians were “freedom fighters”. Immediately after saying that all the Muslims attending applauded.
After the Muslims were jumping for joy with the Mr. Hammounda’s innappropriate remarks, many people got up and walked out disgusted. I stayed to hear his next remarks which stunned me worse than his previous remarks.

I am guessing that scope is about a 6 inch main aperture. Depending on the ocular, one could be about 58 feet from the WTC at 4 miles without distortion.

I don’t have nearly as much money as Trump and I have a couple pairs of binoculars and telephoto camera lenses.
If CNN listened to their own as-it-happened on Sept. 11, 2001, they had callers that were in MIDTOWN describing scenes.

And the map, which I couldn’t copy indicates that distance along streets with a dog leg, not straight line of sight. And it was a perfect clear, cloudless, crisp day with outstanding visibility. For years I had a direct view to the south from the 47th floor at 42st and Lex. On a day such as the fatal one, the ribs of the WTC stood out clearly in my 300mm zoom lens. With the morning sun hitting the east faces the contrast of falling bodies against the clear blue sky would have been stark. Somewhere I have spectacular photos of the view soutj to the WTC with the Jersey shore visible beyond.

Very similar. The difference is that Carson is and was an unknown to most people. It's much easier to build and support a false narrative and really easy against Carson since he's not used to street fighting. With Trump it's different. He personally knows many more people than the likes of you or I can fathom. And he's been in the public eye so long that there's not a whole lot of people who haven't already made up their minds about him. AND he vigorously fights back when the media attempts to create a false narrative. For all these reasons none of the typical media tricks have any chance of succeeding.
The only thing that can stop Trump is Trump. He would have to have done something really illegal or something personally really morally and ethically wrong to be bought down.
The illegal isn't going to work. He's surrounded by armies of lawyers who aren't going to let him do anything illegal.
The moral thing isn't going to work either. On a personal level he doesn't drink or do drugs which imbibing in likely accounts for much of the moral failings of public officials. On the business side he must have a solid brand and to routinely and blithely have his companies act in a moral or ethical way will lead to decreased brand value.
In short Trump has this sewn up unless the republicans and democrats screw him out of it.
I think Trump is brilliant in making these so called gaffes.
I think his formula is something like:
1. Polls are showing that terror is major issue and that he polls well on this issue. Strategy is lets hammer this home while issue is hot.
2. Say something that can be taken out of context and/or controversial. I saw Muslims celebrate, I saw people jumping.
3. Wait for inevitable attacks that cause the media to broadcast his main point (Terrorism is major issue) at no cost.
4. Provide proof he was right about “out of context” issue. (Washington Post article, telescope).
5. Wait for inevitable news cycle bringing up issue again with them trying to prove themselves correct but also making his main point a third time (Terrorism is major issue).
6. Rinse and repeat
With no cost to his campaign Trump has gotten the main issue to reverberate through media at least 3 news cycles which accomplishes his main objective that Terrorism is major issue.
The lying media. If any video which had not been destroyed and covered up by the Slimeball MSM of the cheering by Islamof**ks in NJ is found. Trump should produce a TV ad and show it during all the evening newscasts.
Look, for the record, I don’t think it’s a big deal when he embellishes. I am just glad he has reminded people that Americans had to jump because of radical Muslim scum.
What can the human eye discern with a telescope or binoculars? I guess you’ll now tell me a billionaire in a NYC penthouse absolutely wouldn’t have a pair or an expensive telescope?
I certainly would have a great telescope if I lived in a penthouse with a great view.

Trump will be called a liar in any case. He is faced with ‘have you stopped beating your wife’ question.
He says he saw them fall (which I believe based on personal experience without visual aid—read my earlier comments up-thread for the reason why).
Anyway, let’s say he was using a telescope or binoculars, because he gives no thought to using a telescope or binoculars in his apartment, uses them all the time, so he didn’t think to add he used them to watch it happen.
Because of that, imagine the howls if he clarifies he was using a telescope or binoculars-—you see, he didn’t say he was using a telescope or binoculars that means he wasn’t using them (even though those things are pretty standard in high-rise apartments everywhere), and if he does say he was using a telescope or binoculars, he is now lying.
He can’t win. The Trump haters won’t let him.

The article says you can recognize a human as a human at a little over 2 miles. However with cheap binoculars at a much greater distance. Taking a wild guess binoculars with a magnification of factor 7 would push the 2 mile limit out to 14 miles given a crystal clear atmosphere (and ignoring the curvature of the Earth).
