US warplanes have destroyed 283 fuel tankers that were being used to transport oil to help fund the Islamic State group in eastern Syria, officials said Monday.
The huge air raid is another milestone as the US-led coalition intensifies its campaign against the jihadists and focuses on their oil-smuggling infrastructure, estimated to net the group some $500 million a year.
Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis said the strike occurred Saturday between Al Hasakah and Dayr Az Zawr in the east. It came less than a week after another, similar strike destroyed 116 IS fuel trucks.
Just as in that earlier case, US jets on Saturday first conducted a low-flying "show of force" over the trucks, then dropped leaflets telling drivers to flee.
The Pentagon says that while the trucks were being used to support the IS group, the drivers themselves were not thought to be jihadists.
US A-10 air-to-ground attack planes and AC-130 gunships then destroyed the tankers, Davis said, adding there had been no reports of civilian casualties.

“then dropped leaflets telling drivers to flee.”
That stupid policy is going to get someone shot down.

I do not believe anything this regime says.
So now WE’RE BRAGGING about our destruction over there. Funny, I don’t remember us giving out numbers BEFORE the Russians started doing it.
Because if it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it might be an anteater?
Yeah, and Obama has stressed over and over that he did not want to ‘spike the football’. We need footage of these so called tankers.
What would constitute "proof"? By these standards US submarines in WW2 could not target merchant ships because the crews were 'civilians' with no proof that they belonged to the NAZI party. It's insane. Besides. You blast a few trucks and either one of 2 things happens: The driver say "scr3w this" and stop hauling, or they continue, in which case you can safely conclude that they are jihadists.
“I’m innocent! I swear to Allah, somebody just asked me to drive this tanker truck. I didn’t see his face. I don’t know his name! I was just following orders!”
“All right, get oudda heah. Beat it. Don’t let me see yer ugly mug around here again.”
That goes against the statues of his Nobel Peace Prize.
Of course Russia is bombing the crap out of them with no regard for collateral damage or civilians and in the end it will be the Russkies that make the game changing impact in the region, not Johnny Come Lately Obama...
We have air superiority and there should not be so much as a donkey cart hauling falafel that isn’t obliterated . The whole region should be turned into a moon scape with B-52 carpet bombing.
Why have we not been doing this since day one? It cuts off one of their main revenue streams, it’s easily accomplished with air power, and there’s virtually no collateral damage.

We’re leading the Russian and Iranian air forces?
Obama’s ROE.
I couldn’t agree more. Obama’s only now getting somewhat serious, or I should say allowing the US Air Force to get somewhat serious. One of the things about Obama is that if the military fails because of his bad policies, it’s a win-win for him and the liberals.
I think the writer intends to differentiate the US-led efforts from the Putin led ones. Putin is partnered with Iran and Assad.
Yes the USAF started on the oil trucks before the Russians. They were also hitting refineries and oil/gas storage before the Russians.
Concurring bump...National Public Radio recently got caught inserting video of Russian air strikes on ISIS truck convoys into a report about American efforts in Syria.
me either....
we have an alleged truck count but no body count
How many bodies? bodies are what really count
Think of the pollution created by blowing up a fuel truck. Tons of smoke, fire and spilled oil. Where are the leftys crying over the impact on GW, the local flora and fauna, the environmental racism, and the demands for EPA to clean up the mess?
