In an unusual alliance, a House Democrat and Republican have teamed up to urge the Obama administration to stop trying to overthrow Syrian President Bashar Assad and focus all its efforts on destroying Islamic State militants.
Reps. Tulsi Gabbard, a Democrat, and Austin Scott, a Republican, introduced legislation on Friday to end what they called an "illegal war" to overthrow Assad, the leader of Syria accused of killing tens of thousands of Syrian citizens in a more than four-year-old civil war entangled in a battle against IS extremists, also known as ISIS.
"The U.S. is waging two wars in Syria," Gabbard said. "The first is the war against ISIS and other Islamic extremists, which Congress authorized after the terrorist attack on 9/11. The second war is the illegal war to overthrow the Syrian government of Assad."
Scott said, "Working to remove Assad at this stage is counter-productive to what I believe our primary mission should be."

It’s ONLY Obama who has this ‘obsession’ to rid Assad from Syria....And now he’s lying, once again, saying Putin may agree to a Transitional Government....when Putin’s all along said as much and it’s been Obama who has refused all options but removing Assad....many times he wouldn’t even come to the table....Obama’s why the war’s continued so long...He’s just evil!
How about Mcainiac& Linseed?
ANY time those two, or either one, go abroad you can be guaranteed a conflict will soon come to pass thereafter....they’re both disgusting!
I would say she is the resurrection of the scoop jackson democrats, except I think she’s only a democrat because that’s all hawaii normally elects to congress
Gabbard is covering for Obama - giving him an “out” on Assad. I have caught several of her appearances on TV and there is something “strange” or “different” about her and her views. I cannot put my finger on it, but I feel she is definitely an Obama messenger boy. He needs to save face on the Assad mess he created and, bingo, in comes Gabbard with the answer. I do not know the republican who is co-sponsoring this “bill.”
Obama’s boys are the Muslim Brotherhood. He will protect them no matter what. They are the reason Obama hates al Sisi of Egypt.
Watch Gabbard. There is something very fishy about her.
Right, we wouldn’t want a Democrat talking sense about what we should do in Syria, so let’s criticize her
You’re full of cr-p. The Christians of Syria have been quoted DIRECTLY, all across the media - including in the Catholic media, saying that Assad protects them from the Islamists, and they hope to God he isn’t overthrown
Ubless you’re blind you know that. I have to conclude you are an enemy of the Christians or at best unconcerned about their fate
In any case you’re a liar when you say they don’t support Assad. A vile liar
“Across the media” is a meaningless phrase; it sure doesn’t lend credibility to the notion that dhimmitude is the only alternative to being slaughtered. So why isn’t Putin taking in the Christians to Russia if Obama won’t take them? Just a means to an end for him.
Putin and Obama are working together; the very fact of the P5+1 spells that out so blatantly that even a child can see that.
PS. It’s ironic that you aren’t calling the supporters of Iran “vile liar(s)”. Do you shout “Death to America” along with them?
Why do you support the people who crucify Christians in Syria. You’re one sick puppy.
Syrian Christian Leaders Call on US to End Support for Anti-Assad Rebels
Hey, Olog — you may support Obama’s policy of arming these Christian-killers, but decent people don’t. You and Obama are both sickos, in my opinion.
Yes, Wiki claims they’re Twelvers.
All you need to know about the war in Syria is as follows, the Christians are fighting on the side of Assad. Assad is a son of bitch but he wishes Christians no harm. Assad is no danger to the USA. Assad is a danger to Israel but considering Israels abilities and nuclear weapons, this is of little importance.
Nation building in an Islamic nation is impossible as a nation of free people is totally contradictory to the Koran.
The only logical course in the Middle East is to instill the non secular dictator of our choice that will also support us. Russia understands this.
I lived and worked in the Middle East for some years and do know of which I speak.
False dilemma. Why do Obama and Putin support them, on both sides?
Liberal media.
I can’t see any source that claims otherwise. Of course, there are the bits about them allowing drinking of wine in certain of their ceremonies and this whole veneration of Ali thing (Mahomet’s son-in-law).
Very true. President Obama said during a 2012 speech the "future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam."
There is no god but the Moon God, and a Child Molester is his Prophet!
The future is now!
Sure, he wishes Christians no harm so long as they adhere to the Ba’athist Arab nationalism/Arab socialism credo (yes, national socialism) as promulgated by heretic Greek Orthodox co-founder of the Ba’ath Party Michel Aflaq, instead of the teachings of Jesus. And of course do not challenge the supremacy of the Alawites.
Given that Obama is militarily incompetent & ideologically corrupt, I rather the US minimize its involvement in Syria/Iraq. Russia has vetoed any removal of Assad, & there are no reliable US allies in the region worth supporting.
I do wish we could help the Christians there, but that idea is probably no longer possible. As for the muslims, I am content to watch them kill each other.
Strategically, Russia & Iran are spending big dollars to finance this war. Both are not in the best of financial circumstances, & both are already suffering financial sanctions by the West. Taking & holding territory, imperative to any Syrian regime survival, will be costly.
Like the Taleban, ISIS will not simply be bombed out of existence. They will go urban underground, attacking the Russians/Iranians/Syrians with IEDs & suicide bombs.
I believe Putin thinks he can make short work of ISIS & the Syrian rebels by sheer, swift brutality. He is mistaken.
The US has been in Afghanistan for 14+ years. Iraq has been a US military expense since 1991. It is estimated that these 2 wars cost $1.5 Trillion. I don’t think Russia & Iran can afford such a protracted war.
