US lawmakers say forget Assad, focus on ISIS

In an unusual alliance, a House Democrat and Republican have teamed up to urge the Obama administration to stop trying to overthrow Syrian President Bashar Assad and focus all its efforts on destroying Islamic State militants.

Reps. Tulsi Gabbard, a Democrat, and Austin Scott, a Republican, introduced legislation on Friday to end what they called an "illegal war" to overthrow Assad, the leader of Syria accused of killing tens of thousands of Syrian citizens in a more than four-year-old civil war entangled in a battle against IS extremists, also known as ISIS.

"The U.S. is waging two wars in Syria," Gabbard said. "The first is the war against ISIS and other Islamic extremists, which Congress authorized after the terrorist attack on 9/11. The second war is the illegal war to overthrow the Syrian government of Assad."

Scott said, "Working to remove Assad at this stage is counter-productive to what I believe our primary mission should be."

Blood on the feckless fool on the hill’s head. Blind to mercy, blind to truth, but the truth will catch up, as will his reward.

I’m just holding you to a single standard. If you think we can’t ally with Putin because he’s evil, then how much worse was it to ally with Stalin. Maybe consistency isn’t your strong point?

No, you're making assumptions. Where did I say ANY of that?

Second-hand from Al-Monitor, partner of a number of liberal media outlets and with writers aligned with Hezbollah; and via a RedState contributor.

When Obama is among the voices claiming that Assad “protect(s) Christians”, the claim must be taken with a large grain of salt.

Or you can just go on line and talk to Syrian Christians being protected behind Alawite lines. For crying out loud, something’s are very very obvious and people still don’t get it. Russia was invited in to help defend the only SANE people left in Syria. Look into it.

Dhimmitude is not protection.

And Alawites are radical Twelvers, not sane. They’re waiting for the Mahdi as well.

The focus has never been on destroying ISIS. Obama is just trying to make it look like he is doing something as a way to blunt criticism. I can recall many news reports where it was reported that the US dropped 1 or 2 bombs. What kind of air war is that?

The 1st Gulf War had an air war. We dropped more bombs on Iraq in 6 weeks than we drop on Germany in all of World War 2. In the end, we still needed group forces to mop up, because you can’t capture territory from the air.

I think that Africa and the Middle East were better off as colonies.

If we are to focus on what Iran wants, then that means a shift to SUPPORTING Bashar al-Assad, and running ISIS out of town for good and all. ISIS is a franchise of the Muslim Brotherhood, and draws its majority support from the Sunni faction of Islam. Their objective - recreate the Ottoman Empire, as a Caliphate.

There are still two competing ideologies in that mess that is Islam, Iran/Shi’ite on one side, and Saudi Arabia/Sunni on the other. The Current Occupant has just recently loaded the odds in the favor of Iran, and is sort of stuck to put all their eggs in that basket.

A choice that shall end up haunting us as a nation for decades to come. If there still is a viable nation in that territory on the North American continent that was once known as “the United States of America”. It may well founder and fail, becoming a balkanized region split into localized special interests.

The Dems are going to put a burn notice on Tulsi Gabbard and she will be left without a party or switch to Republicans over this. I never heard of her till a week ago and now I know she is dead to the Dems.

Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.
Communist Goal #43. Whatever African countries are not ruled by Islam these days are ruled by communists.

You are uninformed. Luckily you don’t get any say in this. Assad isn’t going anywhere.

He wars against IS(IS/IL/DAESH) as much as he wars against Iran.

So you’re saying Assad isn’t a Twelver? I think you had better look that up.

And forced pleas from dhimmis, while unfortunate, are not the truth. Especially when they are past victims of such things as this. Shameful that Putin is contributing to Christians’ resubjugation under Twelvers.

You can talk to them yourself you know. This is 2015. You don’t have to come up with your own whacked out theories. How many crucifixion by Alawites in the past ten years? How many?

Assad, Putin and Iran are allies. Without Assad, there would be no ISIS.

If I talk to them myself as you call it, how do I know who I am talking to? or the circumstances of their claims to wish to live under continued dhimmitude? It’s just a telephone with video.

They are being forced to stay there because Obama is not letting them come here, remember. His preference is for the Muslim “refugees”; you know, the “women and three-year-old children” that are really males of military age.

But by all means, keep calling facts “w(h)acked-out theories”. And keep supporting dhimmitude instead of freedom for Christians. Never mind crucifixion not being the only means of murder used against Christians by Muslims.

blaming Asssad for tens of thousand of Syrian death is ridiculous. When you rebel and Assad fight back of course there will be casualties

The Republican won’t get any support from his party, either. Count on it.
