ROCKUMENTARY: NOVEMBER 21, 1965
With Lyndon Johnson's victory, the floodgates opened, and America began its second New Deal, labeled by Johnson the Great Society. No one in the Mainstream Media mentioned that Johnson had stolen the slogan from Britain's Fabian Socialists. Bill after bill was pushed through Congress with Johnson's huge congressional majorities. Johnson was right: The country was turning Hard Left, and he was the one turning it.
Vietnam was moving into the spotlight, and Johnson told Americans that the country could afford both guns and butter. This decision had a disastrous effect on gold flow because the country was still on a gold exchange standard for international settlements. The London Gold Pool was established to hold down the gold price, and public service announcements urged Americans to stay home and "See America first." It was Kennedy who understood that the gold problem came from having so much of the country's military deployed overseas, but Kennedy was no longer in a position to do anything about it. Johnson simply bulled ahead. The last remnants of silver were removed from American coinage as the currency inflated.
Musically, the second wave of the British Invasion crashed on American shores, inundating more American acts. Again, the Beatles had cleared the decks for the release of a new album in time for the Christmas season.
Cue the Rockumentary theme on Turntable #1!
(This was a backup band at Motown that consisted of the Funk Brothers and pickup musicians from the Detroit Symphony.)
The San Remo Golden Strings: "Festival Time"
#10: The Silkie: "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away"The Beatles did not release this on a single, so others took advantage of that lapse.

The following popped into my brain last night. Do not ask me why because I do not know: ;-) SUBMARINERS
Submarine sailors are, indeed, a very strange breed despite the fact that their IQs have to be within the top 2% of the population. I suppose that all of us could qualify for MENSA but most are too dumb to realize it and/or are simply too 'uppity' to bother! Go figure! ;-)
This discussion is a memory of fifty years ago. Whether or not the Navy and Submarine Force of today have curtailed this behavior is unknown to me.
In all of the ports where submarines are based there are no bars or clubs that are designated as "Submariners'" bars or clubs. All bars or clubs generally have Skimmer, Airedale, Naval base personnel, Marine and Submariner patrons. During any given night in any bar or club, it was inevitable that some inebriated submarine sailor would shout,
"ANY SUBMARINE SAILOR WHO CAN'T TAP DANCE IS, ( To use the politically correct terminology of today's world, ) GAY!"
At that point one could see a bunch of submarine sailors, in uniform or not, jump up and start tap dancing all over the floor! That would cause uproarious laughter from everyone in the bar or club! I almost died laughing last night when I remembered this! And, before you ask.....Yes, I was an excellent tap dancer!
Those were the good ol' days! ;-)
Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.
