Traffic Stop Quickly Escalated When Driver Informed Officer of Concealed Carry Permit
The Blaze ^ | 11/19/15 | Jason Howerton

Gonzalez claims he was unfairly targeted because he was carrying a gun.

The traffic stop began routine enough. Rosenberg officer Sgt. Anthony Schnacky asked Gonzalez for his license and insurance.

"Yeah, what's the reason you stopped me?" Gonzalez asked.

"I'll tell you in just a minute," the officer replied.

But when Gonzalez informed Sgt. Schnacky that he was legally carrying a concealed firearm, the tone of the situation shifted dramatically.

The officer called for backup and they both approached the driver's window -- one of them with his gun drawn. Schnacky ordered Gonzalez to put his hands on the steering wheel and "step out of the truck" with his hands on the back of his head.

Gonzalez was then handcuffed and arrested. When he asked the officer why he was being arrested, Schnacky replied, "For your traffic violations."

"Just because I have a handgun on me and a license to carry should not be a big deal, but that is what made it the turning point," Gonzalez told KPRC-TV, adding that he would have likely received a citation and set free if he wasn't armed at the time.

The dash cam footage aired by KPRC-TV is heavily edited and doesn't include the entire interaction that occurred prior to the man's arrest. Schnacky also told the backup officer that Gonzalez was being uncooperative, according to the news station.

The Rosenberg Police Department has reportedly determined the officers didn't violate any police procedures.

When I was taking my Texas CCL class a few years ago, we were stringently taught that that when a policeman pulls you over for any reason......stick both hands out of the window and tell the cop that you are licensed to carry and have a gun in the car.

You will have no trouble after that if you are not guilty of something else.

Done it twice and both times the cop thanked me and told me they wished others would do the same. Of course, I live in Texas too.

If you notice the first cop touched the bed of the truck TWICE on the way to the cab. This is usually done intentionally to leave a scent so that a drug dog will get a positive hit and let them search the vehicle.

Criminal bastards. Planting evidence.

Somebody’s gotta start firing up the ‘spoliation of evidence’ lawsuit strategies because you know there’s going to be lots of problems with police Dash cams and body cams.

- not being turned on
- not functioning
- withheld

So best to establish court precedence for the public’s favor.

Here’s another article about the officer being a “pussy”.

I don’t understand why anyone carries what they will not use. Why tell the cop you are carrying, unless you are trying to incite trouble?

He was lucky that they did not kill him. They probably did not think of it was why they did not. But they will correct that mistake the next time they see him. And be heroes.

It appears to me that one cop was white and one was black. I’m not going to the Blaze, because it has too much junk and pop-ups.

We don’t live in a must inform state. If you tell the wrong cop it could be trouble, its etter to just let him give you the ticket and drive away.

However I believe the system used by police with notify them if we have a concealed permit.

I didn’t go to the Blaze either, and on closer inspection I could be mistaken about the cop on the right.

Last time I was pulled over I was coming back from “The Range”

Had the following laying on my back seat
(1) 44 Mag
(1) 357 Mag
(1) 10/22
(1) 12 GA Pump

Officer told me that my Veh Inspection had expired, asked for my License, I asked if he needed my Insurance and he said “No, if you are the Registered Owner I have everything on my Computer”
He gave me a fixit ticket then pointed at my backseat and asked “How did you do?”
I reached into the backseat without thinking and grabbed my Targets and we discussed them for another 10 minutes or so, he said it looks like I pulled a couple of the 357 but squeezed the rest, again without thinking I turned and reached in the backseat and picked up the 357 and handed it to him (he wanted to test the trigger) recommended a guy (that turns out we both knew) that could “slick that trigger up”.
He said “Get that Inspection, see you at the Range”
I do believe I lucked out that day
Then the Terrible Boating Accident when I lost all of my beauties to the deep blue.

Over the years I have been stopped three times and was carrying. When the officer came to the car I would have insurance, DL and CCL in my left hand and my right hand on the steering wheel and the drivers window open. The first thing I would say is, “Sir I am carrying” and tell the officer where the weapon was.

Without exception I was treated courteously and the officers were not alarmed. My actions also let me get by with just a warning twice.

I do not know what happened in Rosenberg but this has never been my experience.
