I love Sicily, and it Almost became a state.
But I’m American way first. I have a soft spot for the people there though :)

You know that's a good question and while I don't have any hard data one way or the other, my gut reaction was "no, they didn't actually fight U.S. troops", and if true I'd like to think they viewed themselves as having more in common with Americans than with Germans.
