His people said they could not be ready for war before 1943 but Hitler got impatient and invaded Poland.
Also says Italian forces would not let Nazis take Jews from town in France, even blocking them at one point.
Hitler had serious problems with this.

You know that's a good question and while I don't have any hard data one way or the other, my gut reaction was "no, they didn't actually fight U.S. troops",
On Dec. 11, 1941, Italy declared war on the U.S. It was not until Sept. 08, 1943, when Italy changed sides, that hostilities between the two countries ceased. At the beginning of the invasion of Sicily (part of Italy) by Patton, Italy and the U.S. were thus still at war with each other. Thus: Yes, American and Italian troops did battle each other during WW II.
