Trump surges among likely Republican primary voters: Reuters/Ipsos poll (42%)!

After a week in which he hosted Saturday Night Live and stood center-stage at a Republican debate, Donald Trump is surging among Republicans likely to cast votes in the party’s presidential primary. According to the five-day rolling Reuters/Ipsos presidential poll, Trump has leapt some 17 percentage points among likely Republican voters since Nov. 6, when he was essentially tied with Ben Carson at about 25 percent.

Among all Republicans - not simply likely primary voters -Trump holds a substantial edge over Carson, at 34 percent to about 20 percent, according to the Reuters/Ipsos poll. Trump’s appearance on NBC's Saturday Night Live earned the program its highest ratings in two years, with 9.3 million viewers tuning in. Then, on Tuesday, 13.5 million viewers watched the debate from Milwaukee broadcast on the Fox Business Network. It remains to be seen, however, whether Trump’s surge will hold in the wake of his comments at an Iowa rally Thursday night in which he tore into Carson, telling the crowd that Carson has a "pathological" temper.

"If you’re pathological, there’s no cure for that,” Trump said. "If you’re a child molester, there’s no cure for that.” Trump then posted a video critical of Carson on his Instagram account Friday. The Republican establishment has long expected the outspoken billionaire to fade, and he has yet to give it the satisfaction. Trump has consistently held more than 25 percent of the support among all Republicans in the Reuters/Ipsos rolling poll for more than two months. The Reuters/Ipsos poll is also bad news for Marco Rubio, who is widely considered to be emerging as the establishment-backed alternative to Trump. Despite receiving rave notices for his past two debate performance, Rubio’s support has remained flat, with about 10 percent of likely Republican primary voters preferring him.

Trump now needs to address the terrorism in Paris and now all over the world...drive that home over and over and over

All the critical issues are laid out for Trump to address and gain more support: immigration, terrorism, the economy, H1-B abuses, bad trade deals, the growth in welfare due to a poor economy, and on and on.

He can criticize Carson and Rubio on their kooky and dangerous views on immigration and other issues, even more so after the Paris atrocities. He does not need to resort to personal attacks that turn some of his supporters and potential supporters off.

Foregiveness and redemption are not the same. Redemption means we are healed, made new. Carson is nothing if not an illustration of the principle...and Carson was a child. Is that less likely than the example of Chuck Colson?

Forget SNL, after Paris watch his numbers climb.

Those Mexican nationals protesting the closing of our borders?? What the [bleep] do you have to say now??

Trump has been saying it: if you don’t have borders, you do not have a country.

Exactly. Cruz has been in this race since April and just recently jumped on this immigration platform. He is trying to steal Trump’s thunder on this issue.

I look at it more like he is supporting a friends stand One that he now understands Sort of like he himself had a “come to Donald” moment.”

Reminds me of that movie line....

Welcome to the party, pal.

Trump praised him for coming around (my phrase, not Trump’s - but, it was to that effect).

The fool John Kerry is on TV talking about eliminating the problems of “violent extremism”. I hope he want neglect to also mention the dangers of extreme violence.

Talking about Daesh. Won’t even say ISIS or Islamic State.

He should be surging, Oct 1, 2015 Trump said something like this “I am putting those people (Syrian refugees) on notice, if I am elected they are all going back”. Now after the Paris attack a few others are saying the same thing. Only Trump had the courage to say that 6 weeks ago.

I finally saw Trump's entire speech in Iowa. CNN posted that the Carson rant was 95 minutes long: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3359811/posts, a deceptive post and made me expect something really out of control from Trump. The part about Carson was only a few minutes long and I must say it was not as bad as the press made it seem. Before the "rant" Trump asked the folk if he could go after a favorite guy, and then he did it. I didn't see him as being out of control, just his usual pushing of the envelope. (He also went after Rubio and other lesser candidates)

Eliminate Islam and the problem will be solved.

The first step will have to be electing a president who will actually speak the word "Islam" in connection with "violent extremism".

Kerry blathering on and on. One of the most contemptible public officials in US history.

IOWA SUPPORTERS UNFAZED BY TRUMP'S OUTBURST

IIRC, other than incumbents, Iowa Caucuses have selected the Republican candidate who later became president only one time.

They are not a real good indicator of which Republican candidates win.
