Leading Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson believes that federal and state official overreacted in the case of Terri Schiavo, a Florida woman who died in 2005 as her husband and family battled over whether to keep her alive despite her vegetative state.
The case roiled the state of Florida and sparked an emotional national debate about the ethics, politics and spiritual significance of her life and death.

After speaking at a Republican Party conference here on Friday, a reporter asked Carson what he thought of the infamous case -- one that Bush speaks about occasionally as he mounts his own presidential campaign.
"We face those kinds of issues all the time and while I don't believe in euthanasia, you have to recognize that people that are in that condition do have a series of medical problems that occur that will take them out," he said. "Your job [as a doctor] is to keep them comfortable throughout that process and not to treat everything that comes up."

Carson is a nice man with good intentions. But he has no ability to think his way out of a paper bag when it’s a moral issue of any complexity.
Terri Schiavo was murdered. Jeb stood aside and did nothing, out of cowardice.
All of the people who are bewailing the fact that Trump is going after Carson, don't complain, when he bashes Rubio...funny that! The thing is, this is what politics has ALWAYS been like, in America, from the time of our FFs, who were VICIOUS in their attacks against each other.
Few people know factual history these days and that's not just a shame, but criminal, since they vote based on little to nothing. An d no matter how many times some poster pouts up Reagan's 11th Commandment, he too blasted his opponents, in primaries and against the Dem !

She committed no crime other than she was in the way of her husband and his pregnant girl friend.
Her parents were there begging to take care of her, but no the court would not let that happen.
She was in the way so the court murdered her for the benefit of her husband.
Once again, Ben Carson, a great man, shows that he is a flake.
Terri Schiavo was NOT DYING. She was murdered, and Jeb Bush stood aside and allowed a citizen of the state of Florida to be tortured and die a horrible death at the hands of murderers.

Sorry for what you went through! Many new Palliative Care agencies are desperate to get their ‘numbers’ up in order to survive and like some Hospice programs out there are putting patients in their care who don’t meet guidelines or need the service. Many MD’s work with specific Hospice programs and rely on nurses to make recommendations.
The good news is Medicare has really cracked-down on new admissions to hospice. The qualifiers have gotten more stringent to help eliminate fraud and abuse. New Quality Improvement indicators have gone into effect for ALL programs regarding admission to hospice care, care planning, resource management, pain management, and other quality of life issues.
The one sad thing (among MANY) with Obamacare is the 30 day readmit penalty. If a patient is released by a hospital and returns to hospital within 30 days there is a penalty regarding payment. Most hospitals now will not admit the patient (will keep patient in ER for observation) and may refer to hospice/palliative care in order to not deal with penalty.

Disappointing indeed. It’s as if Carson believes it is acceptable for a man to kill his wife for the money. He is not strong enough on life for the born (or unborn), and/or doesn’t know all the facts.
