Leading Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson believes that federal and state official overreacted in the case of Terri Schiavo, a Florida woman who died in 2005 as her husband and family battled over whether to keep her alive despite her vegetative state.
The case roiled the state of Florida and sparked an emotional national debate about the ethics, politics and spiritual significance of her life and death.

After speaking at a Republican Party conference here on Friday, a reporter asked Carson what he thought of the infamous case -- one that Bush speaks about occasionally as he mounts his own presidential campaign.
"We face those kinds of issues all the time and while I don't believe in euthanasia, you have to recognize that people that are in that condition do have a series of medical problems that occur that will take them out," he said. "Your job [as a doctor] is to keep them comfortable throughout that process and not to treat everything that comes up."

Eminent domain is typically used at the local level and you would have a hard time coming up with an example where a sitting President was pursuing kicking a homeowner out to widen a freeway.
Today's attack on Paris explicitly show that we need the strongest anti-immigrant person we can find.
Your property rights mean nothing when your dead.
“Terri Shiavo had a loving family that wanted to take care of her. Her husband had a babe he was hot to marry so Terri had to go. There was about $600,000 coming to him.”
Yes, I remember. I followed the tragedy closely.
Hi Tim, long time. BTW, how’s the jihadi cheerleading going for you these days?
What this brings to light is that everyone should have a very detailed plan of end of life care with their physician before medical symptoms preclude you from establishing those instructions. Once you are impaired in any way, it's going to be the worst way to go because your wants or instructions can be questioned and the courts will always side on their desire, not yours. Always be out in front.
The Terri Schiavo case is not a matter for political discussion at this time. It's a reminder for everyone to make sure their family or personal physician understands the full scope of your wishes and is there to assist you when a cure or continued life is possible and again when there is no hope but continuing deterioration.
She wouldn't die for them so they decided they would kill her...That's one issue...The other one is they could have given her an injection and she would have passed on in a few minutes...Instead they tortured this young lady with starvation and dehydration...How cruel...
Undoubtedly this is the norm for the world of medicine but it would seem to me that a Christian would not shove God out of the picture and play God himself...
But then this one's a Seventh Day Adventist...
Just posted the article on death panels.
What the heck?
Jeb is a Hildabeast win. He is no more prepared to lead this Country than he was several years ago to help save one woman’s life.
Sure sounds like he’s there to PROP UP BUSH. This pretty much PROVES IT.
...but sorry children, too late.
**Sadly, in hospice and cancer centers every day people go off medication and are just given pain killers to comfort them as they pass.**
In her case, she was not dying of anything. She didn’t go off of any medications she was taken off nutrition because her ex husband wanted her dead. Her parents wanted to take care of her, and he would not allow it and the courts went along with it.
That was not hospice care. That was murder by starvation. Period.
.
Carson is much ado about nothing.
He is self destructing by the numbers; he just gave Trump another opening to put him out of his misery.
.
This man is determined to dig himself a deeper hole. Perhaps DJT said something last night to send him over the edge? Whatever, he now doesn’t even have that nice aurora about him any longer. Sorry, Dr. Ben don’t agree with your policies and don’t agree with you on this matter either.
GO TRUMP GO CRUZ!! YOU WIN OR WE LOSE!
Thanks !
Exactly !
Carson is an utter disgrace !
Because Karl Rove and the Gope shysters are MANIPULATING the polls!!!
No, Carson would be a disaster as president. And another thread tonight, he takes a terrible attitude toward Terri Schiavo, admitted he wasn't totally familiar with the case. Said people over-reacted or something like that. Cold. Medical people get hardened and lose their empathy, I hope not all.
There's no good place to mention this, so i'll work it in here. I've seen photos of Dr. Carson as a young surgeon. He was quite handsome (isn't now). But he has all that facial hair, saw a pic in scrubs with the facial hair. Why is that allowed in an operating room? Lotsa germs and bacteria can collect there and how do you scrub it up? Just wonder how he got away with it. Do the third worlders get away with that, too? Maybe it's racist to question it, I don't care. I think they wear those beards because they think it makes them look manly.
If Iowans are stupid enough to nominate him, I hope they will consider he probably doesn't have a snowballs chance of getting elected.
Finally! One of, and maybe the only, sane posts on this entire thread.
Well said you.
Another arrogant effing doctor.
bump.
Mixing personal tragedy, public spectacle, greed, suffering, and family disputes with national politics at a platform level is just plain old rudeness. Anyone with love and respect for their families and friends would do best in bypassing the juicy bait on the hook in these media fishing sport days.
