Sarah Pitluck used to walk her dogs before dawn, among the early risers exercising on Capitol Hill. She now waits until first light, and for the streets to be busier.
It is just one way the young man who robbed her, ripping the smartphone from her hand and scratching her neck, has changed her daily routine â and her life.
Ever since the Oct. 13 robbery just two blocks from her home, the pharmaceutical executive goes to work later and comes home before it gets dark. Lost time at her office is made up at home, on the phone with her overseas staffers and answering e-mails. She drives more often and pairs with others on neighborhood excursions. Her poodle, Lenzi, and Chihuahua mix, Pedro, get walks only during daylight hours.

Sarah Pitluck, a Capitol Hill resident who was robbed in the neighborhood, walks her dogs Lenzi, left, and Pedro. A man grabbed Pitluckâs phone out of her hand and scratched her chest and neck. Police have not made an arrest in the case. (Nikki Kahn/The Washington Post)
If only there were some sort of ‘equalizer’ a person could carry on their person to thwart such attacks...
Don’t look like very compfortable shoes to be walking the dogs. Just sayin’.
âequalizerâ
Since guns are out- how about a pitbull instead of a poodle
Or perhaps if she had something larger than a couple of rugrats(don't get offended, I'm sure the little dogs are quite nice)for companionship. I have a small dog myself, 145 pounds of small and I can assure you people give him a wide berth even though he's a gentle giant.
And it's a toy poodle, at that. Whatever happened to Americans owning real dogs?
Maybe I was just born and raised in a different America, but that sounds like a real dog to me.
it is a metrosexual thing- or so I am told
hmmm, thinking...yes, yes...you are right something small, something that you could put in a leather or plastic holder, or she could put in her purse...
hhmmm...if only there was something like that that you could buy relatively cheaply and that really sends a message...
or she could just throw the poodle at the attacker i guess or plead for her life, because once they finish with phones and it ramps up to more (and it will) she is going to be begging for that small item..
Or it's a fad. I do home improvement, and when my customers own dogs, nine times out of ten, they're a toy breed. Even most of my patriot conservative customers own them, instead of large breeds.
Americans are a faddish people.
Or walking the animals either
I always get a kick when I take him somewhere and here that exact same thing from people. I have had all kinds of dogs, the smallest being a Bassett Hound, but I have never had a dog as devoted or attentive to emotions as my English mastiff/ American Field Lab mix and there is nothing better than the look on peoples faces when I tell them he's a Mastador.
25 yrs ago- when working delivery job, I was attacked by a pair of mini pins.
Could have fit them in #10 can, but they had temperment of their larger counterparts.
I had to ask the owner to detach them from my pant legs.
Rather ill mannered little thugs they were (the mini pins) not the owners.
Thoughts and prayers for the trauma Lenzi and Pedro suffered during this awful event.
We need a hypo-allergenic dog so have a smaller breed. It is not a fad to us.
Sounds like she had the phone up and talking on it. Obviously no excuse to get robbed, but I’m amazed at how people walk around with no awareness of what is going on around them while they are CONSTANTLY on their phones. I’m guessing the bad guys are looking for that.
Of course it really amazes me when they cross the street without looking - just yapping along.
If only progressives would liberate more people from God, truth, morality, their own property, gender, free markets, and other such evils none of this would happen! (sarc)
Not to worry.
Chief Cathy Lanier will get right on it.
As soon as she gets fone shining all those stars on her shoulders......
fone = done is previous post.
Pharm Exec = Drug Dealer?
