H-1B discussion at 6:30:
I'll tell you, I'm working with my colleagues in the Senate on introducing a package of legislation on reforms to the H-1B program. I have been very, very concerned at the growing reports of abuse of the program, of companies laying off American workers and replacing them with foreign workers. That's not what the H-1B program was designed to do. It was designed to bring in engineers and computer scientists who could generate jobs and add to our economic growth. And if companies are abusing it and laying off American workers, they need to be investigated, they need to be audited, if they've broken the law, they need to be prosecuted. And I am right now actively working on reforms to prevent these abuses because they shouldn't be happening.
And, you know, it's one of the sad consequences of the Obama administration that refuses to enforce our immigration laws across the board...
...they're not enforcing the laws against companies that are abusing the H-1B program. If I'm elected President we will have a Dept. of Justice that enforces the law across the board. We will secure the border.
...I am the only candidate on that stage who has never supported amnesty and who led the fight against the Gang of 8 amnesty bill...against Barack Obama and Chuck Schumer and the establishment Republicans trying to grant massive amnesty...
...people are tired of campaign conservatives, they're tired of people who talk a good game and haven't walked the walk. When it comes to immigration, unlike other candidates who give speeches, I'm the only one who has a proven record of leading the fight to secure the borders. And I give you my word, if I am elected President, we will secure the borders...and there will not be amnesty.

If that's true, it represents a significant flip flop! Donald Trump making Ted Cruz move to the right.
No, the raising of the prevailing wage mentioned in post 14 was years ago.
He didn’t say IF it’s happening, he said IF a particular company does it, they should be penalized.
If they are doing it sounds like if it is really happening. A matter of sematics I guess, but a more honest statement would be “And all companies who are abusing it, will be prosecuted” leaving no doubt, not if you can prove to me that it is happening they need to be investigated. I find politicians leave all sorts of loopholes. Rather like what the meaning of is is.
Definition of if -
-used to talk about the result or effect of something that may happen or be true
-used to discuss the imaginary result or effect of something that did not happen or that is or was not true
-used to say that something must happen before another thing can happen
“And if companies are abusing it and laying off American workers, they need to be investigated, they need to be audited, if they’ve broken the law, they need to be prosecuted.”
I think the H1-B program in theory serves a valid purpose. However, that ‘purpose’ has been long abused - drastically.
Even this morning we see a thread about the DHS holding the equivalent of a seminar for business and immigration lawyers on “How to deal with the DHS and get bang for your immigration buck.”
The need by an American company should be rigidly documented, proof of trying to fulfill requirement with a citizen should be supplied, and this process should be ONGOING and under review at least bi-annually. Under no circumstance should an American worker be displaced by an H1-B visa entrant.
Lastly, the use of H1B status should NEVER allow a potential immigrant to gain foothold status over anyone else that is applying for entry.
The gang of 8 turned his proposal down because it wouldn’t actually increase the number of H1b visas. It was simply too heavy on enforcement to be palatable to the gang of 8.
He even said he expected it to be turned down when he proposed it. Here is video of him proposing and explaining it.

One other item that seldom seems to come up in the discussion is the little incident in Atlantic City where Donald Trump used Eminent Domain to displace someone from their home in order to build a special parking area for limousines at one of his casino hotels. Using the power of the state for a wholly private benefit and not for the general public good, such as road, bridge, subway construction, etc. is an attack commercial in waiting and one that would resonate with most voters. The last genuine plutocrat elected president was FDR and he was able to get away with it by running as defender of the little man in the bread line. Can you imagine what the Democrats (and their foot soldiers in the media) are going to throw at Donald Trump in a general election campaign?
Ya gotta start somewhere...And if Reagan was so conservative as you claim, he couldn't have won the Presidency...
...they're not enforcing the laws against companies that are abusing the H-1B program. If I'm elected President we will have a Dept. of Justice that enforces the law across the board. We will secure the border.Ted is consistent and he's a fighter....I am the only candidate on that stage who has never supported amnesty and who led the fight against the Gang of 8 amnesty bill... against Barack Obama and Chuck Schumer and the establishment Republicans trying to grant massive amnesty...
Immigrants start a disproportionate number of American companies which employ American workers.
The alternative is to educate them here and allow them to return home to start companies in their own countries.
Similarly, there is nothing to stop a company from moving to India, firing ALL of its American workers, and hiring Indians.
I work for a technical services company which has a staff composed of full-time US workers and a large number of foreign contract workers, working overseas. If we didn't use the services of the overseas workers our company wouldn't be competitive worldwide, we'd be out of business, and we'd ALL be unemployed.
Ted just found out that people were abusing the H1B program??? And it's Obama's fault??? You gotta do better than that Ted...
I don't know men/women...There just seems to be so many contradictions...Cruz gets big bucks from this group...
From here:
Similar to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce â âClub for Growthâ is a Political Action Committee who support: Amnesty, H1B visa growth programs, ObamaCare and the anti-American Trans-Pacific Trade Deal.
CfG also has deep connections to Goldman Sachs and former banking executives.
Club For Growth only supports candidates who support their âopen bordersâ/ âglobalistâ objectives: ⦠Amnesty ⦠Comprehensive Immigration Reform ⦠Trans-Pacific Trade Deal
Their current favored candidates are Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz.
He's also the only candidate supporting a half-million increase in then number of H-1Bs. I hope that this is an indication that he's changing on that and wants to reduce the number and not increase it. So I'd like to hear him identify the abuses he says Obama is overlooking and what he would do about it.
You are aware that illegal immigration (deportation) and H1B visas (prosecution of abusers) are two ENTIRELY different subjects, right? Apparently not, given your reply.
The subject here is was about Cruz but there is an awful lot of deflection occurring on this thread.
Cruz attempted to increase the H1-B program by a great multiple.
That program as its feature is designed to provide jobs to citizens of foreign countries. That is a notion that is rooted in sheer idiocy. The suggestion that foreign workers ought to be given any sort of preference in this country is ludicrous.
You can dress it up any way you choose, the fundamental fact us that the H1-B is a jobs program for non Americans. No Senator or other politician ought to be supporting such a program.
Rubbish.
I’m convinced at least half of them do not know the difference between H1B visas and illegal immigration...they think they are one and the same.
“He gets things done”
Um....With all due respect, virtually everything Cruz has tried in the Senate went down to easy defeat.
If he was sponsoring bills that were passing easily, then I’m sure you guys would be listing them 1000 times a day.
You did not read what I wrote. Foreigners were to fill a job for which there was no American.
99% of his posts are trashing Cruz. He spends almost no time advancing who he is for. Just a troll.
