Yep. This looked like a new post to me because the mods changed this post from a vanity post by changing the original bogus “NASA” source to the proper source, namely twitter, AND then removed the original bogus title that had stated something to the effect that “Obama launched a nuclear missile”, changing it to the current title.
Saw from South San Francisco a few minutes after 6pm. Spectacularly bright white exhaust and illuminated exhaust trail.
I saw the missile from S.F. area and what’s seen on the video is not an explosion. The missile fuel is continuing to burn as a small point and the trailing exhaust smoke is aglow from the intense brightness of the engine. Perspective as the missile is tracking away and climbing, and accelerating can mislead an unexpecting observer. The missile is doing something most of us have never seen, climbing AND accelerating to somewhere just beyond the speed of stink! It’s an amazing sight to see.
I probably would’ve felt like concrete just formed in my gut if I was in CA and saw that. It didn’t have a mostly pencil tail which rules out a meteorite. It had a conical tail which implied something with thrust.
I actually felt scared when I found out it was an SLBM.
I live in Orange County, CA. When I used to drive up to Colorado Springs to visit Relatives I thought it was around 1200 Miles.
Nowadays, being the Old Guy I am, I let the Pilot figure it out. LOL
I was surprised. I had the figure of 1,700 miles to the coast in my head. How that got in my data banks I don’t know since that’s double the reality.
Well it wasn’t heading to LA, it was going down range southwesterly. Some who’d smoked a bong or weed thought it awesome, gays thought it fabulous.
Denver to Los Angeles is about 1200 Miles.

I know it wasn’t heading towards LA, but seeing that kind of exhaust plume would’ve really freaked me out.
One wouldn't be able to see a laser beam from the side. The whole point of laser is that the beam is narrow and condensed. Even if it were like a 3" diameter white-hot steel pipe all the way from the ground to the clouds, you'd be hard pressed to see it from a distance.
Particle beam... there is a reason why particles in LHC are accelerated in vacuum. Otherwise they wouldn't travel very far; air is just too dense. Particle beam weapons are only for spaceships.
