Houston's controversial equal rights ordinance failed by a wide margin Tuesday, with voters opting to repeal the law that offered broad non-discrimination protections, according to incomplete and unofficial returns.
The hotly contested election has spurred national attention, drawing comment from the White House and the state's top officials. Largely conservative opponents of the law allege that it would allow men dressed as women, including sexual predators, to enter women's restrooms. Supporters of the law, including Mayor Annise Parker, argue that it extends an important local recourse for a range of protected classes to respond to discrimination.
Supporters released a written statement Tuesday night: "We are disappointed with today's outcome, but our work to secure nondiscrimination protections for all hard-working Houstonians will continue. No one should have to live with the specter of discrimination hanging over them. Everyone should have the freedom to work hard, earn a decent living and provide for themselves and their families."

The old "lets keep voting on it until we win and then never vote on it again" trick.
That is just really sad.
Eventually we put liberals in cages or they put us in cattle cars. There will never be middle ground with liberals. They have one position on the switch. “Take”. Once people realize that and what it means to their lives, we will see progress against them. Real progress, not hippy happy feelgood compromise at an increasing loss.
Liberals understand instinctively what conservatives, for all the Spockian logic, do not. Compromise is loss.
This’ll be overturned by some Obama appointee somewhere.
Yep.
I'll go you one better and say that a GWB appointee will say that the voters had "no standing" to vote on the "right for grown men to strut around naked in women's bathrooms".
You know, because the Constitution *clearly guarantees* it, or something.
They'll probably cite the Third amendment in their ruling, because they are such eminently qualified legal scholars.
The black robes will have the final say in this matter, no doubt.
The black robes will keep having the final say on this and other issues regardless of the feelings of elected officials and the people until they are told by elected officials and or the people to “sit on it and rotate”.
*RETCH*
And “old” is the operative word. Here in sad sack CA the legislature has — in every session for the last 15 years — taken up legislation that would either make Kindergarten mandatory, or extend “public education” the the preschool level. They have been repudiated at every turn by public outcry against both ideas, but persist in resurrecting them again, and again.
I’m intent upon finding the political equivalent of a wooden stake to drive through their black hearts.
Not really.
That is now starting to happen. America is being taken back, bit by bit.
Not if we put them in body bags first. It's going to come to that.
Slap in the face to the sex offenders. Homowood must be spinning in their filth on this defeat.
The sex offenders will ultimately win as soon as they find a judge willing to take a bribe and stand against natural law and the Constitution. The blackrobes are handing the country to the Marxists.
It’s the tyranny the Constitution was supposed to protect us from - majoritarianism. We’re not supposed to have this much government at any level. Even the “government schooling”, though traditional, was parent managed and run.
Progressives: Oh, well. Now we’ll just find a judge to force everyone to do it.
Bathrooms should be labeled XX and XY.
You go to the bathroom that indicates your genetic makeup.
T(y)ranny
Parker just told her supporters they would prevail on this one no matter what the voters think. The left never gives up; only the GOP gives up.
