Santorum targets Cruz on immigration
Quad City Times ^ | 11/02/2015 | Ed Tibbets

Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum took aim Monday at a rival who has been getting a lot of buzz in Iowa lately, Sen. Ted Cruz.

Santorum said Cruz, a Texas Republican, falls short on immigration.

Santorum, who is lagging in the polls, was in Davenport on Sunday night for a house party. Monday morning, he spoke to about two dozen people at Scott County Republican Party headquarters.

The former Pennsylvania senator, who has made curbs on immigration a key part of his campaign, renewed complaints that Cruz has proposed a significant increase in the number of H-1B visas, which are aimed at luring people with advanced degrees to the U.S.

The comment came in response to a questioner who insisted that Santorum should take on Democrats more forcefully on the issue.

"It's not just the Democrats. It's Democrats and Republicans," Santorum said. "It's Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and, yes, it's Ted Cruz. Ted Cruz wants to take the H-1B program and increase it by 500 percent. He wants to go from 65,000 to 330,000. Again, 'Mr. Conservative.' Everybody (says) how conservative he is. He wants to increase it by five times."

Santorum says the program is used to bring in cheap labor and costs U.S. citizens job opportunities. In addition to opposing illegal immigration, Santorum has separated himself from much of the GOP field by also saying legal immigration ought to be limited.

Santorum also said that an amendment Cruz offered to a bipartisan immigration reform bill two years ago would have allowed people in the country illegally to stay after the border was secured.

The Cruz campaign did not immediately reply to a request for a response. But Cruz has previously said high-skilled immigrants generate jobs and productivity and there is a shortage of high-skilled workers in the U.S.

Maybe Santorum is “hopeful,” but most of us know his campaign is going nowhere fast. Even those of us in his supposed home state of Pennsylvania don't like him.

Santorum hits Cruz on his only vulnerable position, increasing legal immigration.

I hope Rick gets some traction with this so that Ted will rethink this.

Santorum runs for president as his way to make a living. He should get a real job.

However he have hit on some truth here; Cruz needs to re visit his position on this.

You can say what you want about Santorum.....but he got his facts right about Cruz.
What do you have to say about that?

“...he spoke to about two dozen people..”

Wow, impressive numbers right there.

I think I usually drew more than that at my secure the border town hall meetings when I was recruiting volunteers.

“I hope Rick gets some traction with this so that Ted will rethink this.”

That would be nice, but I don’t think Cruz changes his views. Santorum is still my number one choice, no matter how unlikely a victor.

Your right .

These Cruz supporters do not accept
the reality that there guy is owned by the Cheap Foreign Labor Cartel - Billionaire elites in DC as much as Rubio or Jeb or Christie or Carly ...

The smears are all just snide comments to mock but not challenge the facts .

TAKING AIM AT AMERICAN WORKERS Ted Cruz wants to increase H-1B visa program by 500 percent.....from 65,000 to 330,000.....the program is used to bring in cheap labor and costs U.S. citizens job opportunities. Cruz offered an amendment to a bipartisan immigration reform bill two years ago would have allowed people in the country illegally to stay after the border was secured.

Cruz also voted to fast-track Obama's TPP---another anti-American worker initiative.

Cruz also has highly suspect ties to the Council on Foreign Relations via his wife...a Goldman Sachs exec....Goldman Sachs is a Cruz campaign contributor.

Mrs Cruz served on the North American Union task force, and supported their report called---'Building a North American Community.' The effort was sponsored by the Council on Foreign Relations in association with the Canadian Council of Chief Executives and the Consejo Mexicano de Asuntos Internacionales.

Translated into English, that means forget US sovereignty....just eradicate US borders.

To be fair, Cruz renounced his Canadian citizenship....recently.
