My favorite Fred Thompson memory was when he refused to play a game of “raise your hand if . . . “ from some smarmy reporter before the Iowa Caucuses. I don't remember the question or the name of the reporter, but I do remember Fred giving her a well-deserved smack down.

In the summer of 2007 I traveled both the east and west coast; every conservative I knew was for Thompson. His poll numbers never got out of the mid single digits and he dropped out. To this day I don’t believe those poll numbers....I still wrote him in for the general election over McCain.

He had lymphomaHad it for a good while, as I recall. Didn't realize he was that young.

I loved the old guy.
He appeared in “Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World”, a funny flick from Albert Brooks.
Rest in Peace, Fred.

"Red October too if I recall correctly." This will get out of hand and we will be lucky to live through it..!!

he was awesome in the debates. the rest just looked like children next to him lol
I remember everyone was so ticked off when he just fizzled and many felt we’d been played.

Even though the 2008 nominee was already decided, I was proud to cast a “protest” primary vote for Fred. He was a man of moral certitude and common sense.
For America to have turned away such a man in favor of what they chose in 2008, I can only think this:
Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these, “It might have been.”
RIP

I think he would have made a damn good president.
Anyway, he had one hell of life: senator, actor.

Sad news. Really enjoyed him as the DA, not as the candidate. RIP, Sir.

A lousy senator and a lousy actor. When they were talking about impeaching Clinton he sat in the corner with his face in his hands. That was enough to make him a lousy senator. When he couldn’t put a sentence together during a debate proved he was a lousy actor.
