I have always been amazed at the response to these stories. Some people will automatically say, “These schools must be improved.” “We must get them better teachers.”

The only problem with those notions is that you could veneer the classroom walls with gold and have an Albert Einstein in each class, and the outcome would be the same.

I don’t have to do research to know that the problems are: proclivity for drugs, sex, gangsta rap, broken homes, racism, no effort, a taunting, smirking rejection of all moral teaching, etc.
