Donald Trump was doing well at the GOP Debate on Wednesday evening until a blunder in which he claimed not to have called Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) âMark Zuckerbergâs personal senator.â
Moderator Becky Quickâwho had been aggressive with all of the candidatesâasked Trump about the quote in the context of his policy on H1-B visas for skilled immigrants.
Trump denied having said the line: ââI never said that.â He then suggested that Jeb Bush may have been to blame for the quote, and accused the moderators of âreally doing some bad fact-checking.â
Quick apologized, though it was not clear she was convinced.

Once again, Trump speaks the truth that none dare speak.
Gee, you think if he had said it, he would have owned it as soon as it was mentioned along the lines of: “Yes, I said it. I’m not walking it back it. Here’s why...”
If he wasn’t sure, he could have said, “Frankly, I can’t immediately recall if I said that. But let’s say I did. It’s still true and here’s why...”
Oh, well. He’s no worse than all the other politicians that insist they didn’t say something despite being on the record of saying exactly that.

Big deal.
Rubio, Bush, interchangeable. Who cares? Proverbial tempest in a teapot.
I forgive Trump...sheesh what nonsense.
It’s almost like Trump doesn’t even know what is in his own policy statements.
“Itâs almost like Trump doesnât even know what is in his own policy statements.”
That would definitely NOT be considered a policy statement. Not close.
BFD, It’s pretty well true. They tried to make this whole debate about gotcha. The candidates simply weren’t having it. At one time or another Trump has “owned” several of the candidates, but they didn’t bring that up.
I took the question to be that Trump called Zuckerberg Rubio’s “private secretary.” Trump definitely never said that.
It was in his official immigration plan. That's pretty close.
By saying that he didn’t say it, it gets even more exposure. Genius.
In the immigration policy paper posted on his website, Trump is highly critical of Zuckerberg’s desire to increase the cap on H1B visas, and of Rubio for proposing such an increase. That’s where he called Rubio Zuckerberg’s personal senator.
Tonight, Trump said he had no criticism of Zuckerberg or what he is trying to do (and said he had never called Rubio his personal senator). So, which is it? Does he oppose an increased cap or not? Does he even know that he opposed the increased cap? Does he know what was in the policy paper he posted on his website?
I dont think it matters if someone isn’t sure about Rubio or Zuckerberg being honest or good guys.
I don’t care whether he said it or not. What I care about is the fact there’s not going to be a COLA for my government retirement check next year and I’m not getting any interest income on my savings or CD’s. My standard of living has stagnated and I will vote accordingly. BTW I’m sorry for the young people of today who will have to pay off the staggering US debt.
Do you think Trump will change any of that?
I guess Trump has not memorized all 2 million words on his web sites, his books, and his speeches. Was this a debate or a memory test? The moderators were trying to start a fight between Rubio & Trump. I am happy Trump did not take the bait.
The critical thing I am looking for is which issues are the candidates pushing. The 11-30 million illegals and the Wall are priority #1 issue for me. If that problem is not addresses urgently, there will be so many democrat voters in near future, we can just forget about any conservative issues. Trump is the only one using words “Deport all Illegals FIRST”.
Maybe he (Trump) is as big a liar as "not at Lehman" Kasich, but I wouldn't get to that point based on this gotcha.
