More...The Economist/YouGov Poll includes the responses of 2,000 adults nationwide. The larger sample size means there are about 500 self-identified Republicans, and it is possible to look at subgroups within the party. Trump runs equally well with men and women, though his first choice margin over Carson is bigger among men than it is with women. Carson runs ahead of Trump in the Midwest; Trump leads in all other regions.

41% of Republicans this week believe Trump is their party’s likely nominee. And three in four Republicans think he can defeat the Democratic nominee, whomever that is. But Trump is not the only Republicans thought of as a possible fall winner. As many think Carson could win as think Trump can; Majorities of Republicans also see Rubio and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush as possible winners.

I believe Trump's Jump was due to his position on immigration and his theme of making America great again. He is exhibiting shades of Reagan when he does that.

Any transient changes in polls are due primarily to the flavor of the month appeal that Carson offers.

I do think Trump blunts his appeal when focusing his attacks on a personal level against his opponents instead of keeping to his major themes. He needs to focus on the policies not personalities.

CNBC debate line up

To Donald Trump’s right will be Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, Mike Huckabee and John Kasich,
in that order. To Ben Carson’s left will be Carly Fiorina, Ted Cruz, Chris Christie
and Rand Paul, in that order. For candidates whose national poll averages were tied,
podium positions were selected by a drawing.

I think that chart shows exactly what I have suspected for awhile.

Carson supporters are simply people who want to support Trump but either wont admit it, or are reluctant to.

Why is Fiorina which is fast heading to zero in polling so close to the middle? Cruz got shafted once again it seems

Absolutely no one I talk to is for Carson. It’s Trump, Trump, and Trump. Even Union Democrat neighbors are voting Trump!

Republicans I know are sick and pissed at the GOP in DC.

How do you see that when Carson is the second choice by a huge 24%?

I think the polls that showed Trump behind Carson nationally were either aberrations or blatantly dishonest.

Because the totals of Trump and Carson for 1st and 2nd choice are nearly equal.

I am guessing Trump is the 2nd choice of Carson supporters and vise versa.

Well you won’t be seeing this poll on TV. The MSM is literally running with the two outlier polls showing Carson ahead or neck and neck with Trump.

But look at the actual results from the actual survey/poll:

https://d25d2506sfb94s.cloudfront.net/cumulus_uploads/document/f5io906oik/econTabReport.pdf

Trump has a 45% “Very unfavorable” rating. That’s worse than Hillary’s 39% “Very unfavorable” rating.

Compare that with any other candidate, say Ted Cruz for example, who has a 28% “Very unfavorable” rating.

Spin it like you want, the actual results of the survey indicate that Trump is losing dramatically.

For the question “How liberal or conservative are the Republicans listed below?” Ted Cruz was the clear front-runner as a proven conservative, with Trump scoring only slightly ahead of Jeb Bush.

I’m am getting called frequently by pollsters. Everytime they ask me what my second choice is, I tell them there is no second choice. They probably throw me out :)
