BEN CARSON SKETCHES PLAN FOR DEALING WITH ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS (Citizenship for guest workers)
Powerline ^ | 9/13/15 | PAUL MIRENGOFF

Posted on 10/24/2015 8:41:40 AM PDT by jimbo123

During an appearance of Face the Nation, Dr. Ben Carson took a stab today at outlining how he would deal with the issue of illegal immigration. After criticizing Donald Trump’s concept of deporting every illegal immigrant (and then readmitting “the good ones”), Carson said this:

[L]et’s say we get [the borders] sealed, because certainly in a Carson administration that would be done within the first year. You also turn off the spigot that dispenses the goodies, so that people don’t have any incentive to come here.

Then those who are here, we have to recognize that we can’t just round them up, but we can give them an opportunity to register. I would give them a six-month period.

If they register, and if they have a pristine record, they haven’t been causing problems, I would give them an opportunity to become guest workers — not citizens, not voting people, not people who get goodies. I think that would be a fair way to do it.

In terms of them becoming citizens later on down the road if they’ve done things the right way, we the American people will decide what the criteria for that ought to be.

Most of the commentary I’ve seen about Carson’s statement has focused on the guest worker idea. I’ll get to it in a moment.

My biggest concern, though, is with Carson’s proposal eventually to establish criteria for illegal immigrants becoming “citizens. . .down the road if they’ve done things the right way.” By definition, those who are here illegally have not “done things the right way.” They should be barred from becoming U.S. citizens.

And if you start handing out guest worker visas to law breakers, more will come.

I don't know what the hell is this plan supposed to acomplish.

I think Trump is possibly a fraud. I prefer Cruz. But I can happily vote for Carson.

TTom, meet Mikey, Mikey?

Amnesty.

Plus a bigger bureaucracy to register them.

Unintended consequences:

After they register, their Lib/Dem pals will advocate for them file lawsuits to get the right to vote.

And what Congress or court is going to allow 'you' to withhold benefits, goodies, welfare, healthcare, education, etc.?

==

This was tried years ago under one of the amnesty/forgiveness policies and only a few thousand showed up to register.

Agree with what you said.

The other night one of the lib cable channels had a very nice documentary of Carson’s brain surgery and the two Siamese twin separations he did.

No doubt the guy is a brilliant surgeon, BUT when he was in South Africa it showed him being very chummy with Commy Nelson Mandela. That was all I needed to know.

I’ve always thought that would require a formal amendment to the constitution?

I wish Levin would talk about it sometime.

“I would give them an opportunity to become guest workers”

[That’s a “goodie” that they don’t have now and Carson wants to create. Why?]

That’s the same goodie Rubio wants to give as well.

Ben Carson says on Face the Nation...

“Let’s say we get the borders sealed, because certainly in a Carson administration that would be done within the first year. You also turn off the spigot that dispenses the goodies, so that people don’t have any incentive to come here.

Then those who are here, we have to recognize that we can’t just round them up, but we can give them an opportunity to register. I would give them a six-month period. In terms of them becoming citizens later on down the road if they’ve done things the right way, we the American people will decide what the criteria for that ought to be.”

I disagree with this. You cannot say in one breath, “not citizens,” and then in the next breath, “in terms of them becoming citizens later on down the road.” Put plainly, he intends to offer them a pathway to citizenship.

Well, Ben, if they came here illegally, they have not, “done things the right way.” Trump’s plan is the way. We have to seal the borders, remove the incentives, AND deport those who have come here illegally. That is what this American supports.

This does not mean we have no immigration...it just means we are serious about having no illegal immigration.

Carson is losing it here...and it is going to reflect badly in the polls...as it should.

I dunno if he’s a fraud, He’s made his liberal leaning views known- (just not in the election debates)-

I’ve also heard him whining about race inequality- in one breath stating he doesn’t see race inequality, then in the next breath condemning what happened in fuergeson and standing with the protestors

“Dr. Ben Carson: Ferguson Is Manifestation of Racial Divide”

http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/Ben-Carson-race-divide-cameras/2014/11/30/id/610131/

He’s showing his cards right up front- and one of his cards “appears to be” that he believes whites are either racist, or unfair to blacks- I’ve also heard other remarks he’s made which were similar-

We’ve just been through 7 years of a racist president fomenting racism and denouncing ‘white privilege’ and inciting hatred for whites- I really don’t want another 4-8 years of such racism- our country will be severely damaged if we have 4 more years of it, because the rule of law has already been so damaged it may not recover- Police are now afraid to enforce law in black neighborhoods thanks to a racist president who has fueled hatred for them

Citizenship isn't the primary issue. Legalization is. Carson's scheme is amnesty regardless of whether they are granted citizenship or not. The cost of legalization is $6 trillion if there are only 12 million lawbreakers here.

When you reward something, you get more of it. We had a "one-time" amnesty in 1986. The USG estimated one million would apply and the real number turned out to be 2.7 million. We now have 12 to 30 million.

Is this fair to the 4 million intending immigrants waiting for their turn overseas to enter? They have filled out all the paperwork, had the background checks, etc. Why should we allow the lawbreakers to jump the line. They have committed multiple crimes including entering illegally, overstaying visas, working illegally, tax evasion, ID theft, stealing or misuing SSNs, lying on employment forms, etc.

(Citizenship for guest workers)

He just lost any consideration I might have wasted on him. Although I certainly agree with a lot of his policies, Immigration and the 2nd Amendment are must-haves on my list. NO AMNESTY NOW OR EVER. For all of you too young to remember we were all lied to by the RATS in Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 and again in 1985 Simpson-Mazzoli Act - NEVER EVER AGAIN in my life time will I support any of these lying clowns on "comprehensive immigration reform".

If they really wanted to crack down on the southern invasion they would propose and enact three things:

1) Build the wall that was authorized in the late 2000 time frame
2) Make e-verify mandatory with very stiff fines and jail time for repeat hiring offenders. These fines have to be steep and make them illegal expenses for business tax purposes, and
3)Fix/Implement a visa tracking system that rounds up and DEPORTS visa overstayers (e.g. 911 Hijackers).

“Then those who are here, we have to recognize that we can’t just round them up”

Can somebody here defend this statement? I mean, in terms of practicality and mechanics?

OF COURSE we can round them up. Who thinks otherwise?

The problem with e-Verify is that it is an unconstitutional power for the government to control who works and who cannot. It is a power that is ripe for abuse. Imagine it in Obama’s hands.

Trump has the best plan because there is no think tank involved, no chinese arithmetic, no decision making panels or teams ...

You're here illegally .... you're gone

I believe there WILL be a big door in the wall ... AND I also believe that door will be manned with patriotic professionals ... similar to the ones he promises to bring in as advisors/negotiators ......

People already wealthy and will do things for the common good and the fun of it

Personally ... I HAVE had a job that I loved so much .... if I could have lived without being paid ... I would have worked that job free

I think American politicians were supposed to be expenses paid only, in the beginning .... not the bloated payrolls with bennies/perks and bj's like today
