During an appearance of Face the Nation, Dr. Ben Carson took a stab today at outlining how he would deal with the issue of illegal immigration. After criticizing Donald Trumps concept of deporting every illegal immigrant (and then readmitting the good ones), Carson said this:
[L]ets say we get [the borders] sealed, because certainly in a Carson administration that would be done within the first year. You also turn off the spigot that dispenses the goodies, so that people dont have any incentive to come here.
Then those who are here, we have to recognize that we cant just round them up, but we can give them an opportunity to register. I would give them a six-month period.
If they register, and if they have a pristine record, they havent been causing problems, I would give them an opportunity to become guest workers not citizens, not voting people, not people who get goodies. I think that would be a fair way to do it.
In terms of them becoming citizens later on down the road if theyve done things the right way, we the American people will decide what the criteria for that ought to be.
Most of the commentary Ive seen about Carsons statement has focused on the guest worker idea. Ill get to it in a moment.
My biggest concern, though, is with Carsons proposal eventually to establish criteria for illegal immigrants becoming citizens. . .down the road if theyve done things the right way. By definition, those who are here illegally have not done things the right way. They should be barred from becoming U.S. citizens.

That’s part of it.
We also like to think that we’re above identity politics, and that only liberals play those games. But there’s a fair amount of well-meaning people on our side who’ll throw their support behind anyone claiming to be of their denomination.
Buh-Bye, Ben
Please, go sip a Martini ... In fact, have two, or three.
Do you think that employers should be allowed to import as much foreign labor as they want?
Yep, the employers privatize the profits and socialize the costs. The taxpayers are picking up the tab for health care, education, and incarceration not to mention the millions of victims of criminal alien crime.
Who does he decide gets guest workers? Can I build a one hundred acre industrial compound and have 10,000 imported laborers working there? I can make a lot of money for which I will pay taxes. Will also tank all the wages of the citizen workers in my community which should make the Democrats and Republicans happy.
No. I say get them out of the country, period. Train Americans to take those jobs or devise automation to pick our food, mop our floors, and wash our sheets. Given that I propose a MUCH more effective way of getting illegals (and potential terrorists) out of the country than Trump does, such a rhetorical "question" is beyond bizarre.
You stated previously that the government should not be issuing work permits. You are against mandatory e-verify—something Trump is for.
Do you want any caps on H1B visas?
That is correct. I prefer to expel illegals. Believe me, by the means I propose, they would be bolting the country so fast there would be traffic jams at the borders.
Do you want any caps on H1B visas?
I don't want H1B visas at all. If a person wants to immigrate and be a citizen, then assess the application. I prefer that we be like Switzerland. That said, building a larger population of tech workers is coincident with that goal. It attracts investment and builds the critical mass that made Silicon Valley richer.
>>>If they register, and if they have a pristine record, they havent been causing problems, I would give them an opportunity to become guest workers not citizens, not voting people, not people who get goodies<<<
As Rush has said, the minute a Bill gets Passed in Congress doing this, Schumer would be out in front of the Cameras railing on about these poor People who have become Second Class Citizens, like the Black Folks were (or is it still are).
Heck, we already have Illegals Voting anyway.
You are a newbie yourself if you want to get right down to it. Basically using that line of reasoning only JimRob would have ability to hold any correct opinion on FR.
I could judge by your tagline you (if sincerely Christian) probable would exclude those that only proclaim Jesus when it suit them. That would leave you not coming close to Trump who waves a Bible in one hand and promotes his own book in the other (see Mobile Alabama speech a month ago). Trump's god is himself.
Ben Carson is poser conservative.
He hates our traditional American culture as much as Rubio, Kasich, JEB, and Obama.
He shouldn’t even be on the list....
Carson lost me on this as far as I am concerned.
Meant to say no he got me
This finishes Carson. Nice to know ya.
LOL!

Illegals shouldn’t be here at all. They should be forced to go home where they can use what they learned from their time here to help build up their own countries.
Big trouble ahead
