Social media was abuzz on Wednesday following claims made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Adolf Hitler initially had no intention of massacring European Jewry. In a speech to delegates at the 37th World Zionist Congress in Jerusalem on Tuesday, the premier claimed that Hitler's original intentions were solely to expel the Jews. According to Netanyahu, the Fuhrer changed his mind at the insistence of the Palestinian Arab leader at the time, Haj Amin al-Husseini, who argued that the expulsion of the Jews would result in their arrival en masse to Palestine, which at the time was under British Mandatory rule.
Netanyahu made the claim as part of an effort to illustrate the Palestinian propensity to use the holy places in Jerusalem as pretexts for committing acts of violence against Jews. "My grandfather came to this land in 1920 and he landed in Jaffa, and very shortly after he landed he went to the immigration office in Jaffa," Netanyahu told delegates on Tuesday. "And a few months later it was burned down by marauders. These attackers, Arab attackers, murdered several Jews, including our celebrated writer [Yosef Haim] Brenner."
"And this attack and other attacks on the Jewish community in 1920, 1921, 1929, were instigated by a call of the mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini, who was later sought for war crimes in the Nuremberg trials because he had a central role in fomenting the final solution," the premier said. "He flew to Berlin. Hitler didnt want to exterminate the Jews at the time, he wanted to expel the Jews. And Haj Amin al-Husseini went to Hitler and said, 'If you expel them, they'll all come here.' 'So what should I do with them?' he asked. He said, 'Burn them'..."

I'm pretty sure there are many pictures of the other divisions celebrating Christmas.
Hitler hated Christianity calling it effeminate because of the concepts of mercy and forgiveness.
No one is saying that Hitler was not quite as evil as we all thought. Its common knowledge that eliminating the Jews of Europe was Hitlers intention all along. However, according to the book entitled Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin, Hitler’s solution early on was not extermination, but simply expropriation of Jewish property, intimidation, and coerced emigration. The island of Madagascar was one option discussed; Poland and the Soviet Union were also discussed as options later in the war. Because Hitlers war aims, with regard to the Soviet Union and Great Britain, were not realized early on, killing all of the Jews became an explicit policy as of late 1941. The book doesnt say anything about the Grand Mufti being the impetus for the decision to exterminate the Jews, however, Hitler did meet with him in November 1941. Knowing the history between the Mufti and Hitler, I wouldnt discount this being the case. I would also be inclined to trust Netanyahu’s knowledge of Jewish history rather than yours.
Just to be clear, you agree with Netanyahu's assessment that Hitler merely wanted to relocate European Jews until in November 1941 the Palestinian Mufti convinced Hitler to burn them?
After the Turkish Muslims murdered a million and a half Armenians in 1915, Hitler thought the mass murder of Jews and others possible..
I’ve read this book, Bloodlands. Interesting, but a hard read. I had to stop every few chapters. I thought the plan was to deport them farther east, deep into the Soviet republics. However with the blitz as rapid as it was, but not extending eastward as planned, all of those Jews were trapped. Suddenly, they were hemmed in. There was no time for them to evacuate. He didn’t want them, so, he killed them. Bibi is saying Hitler got the bug up his ass to exterminate the Jews from the “Palestinians”.
According to the book that I mentioned, which seems to be well researched, Hitler’s plan in the beginning was to coerce all of the Jews of Europe, through property confiscation and intimidation, to emigrate to Madagascar. The author makes a pretty convincing case, and I don’t think he’s engaging in speculation. Why would Netanyahu, whose every utterance is under the microscope, dare to make a false statement, especially one of this magnitude?
Wow. Good one. :-)
The confiscation and intimidation was to weaken the Jews in Germany--he didn't want any push back. And, he was successful. Early on, Hitler was deporting Jews outside Germany, Lithuania comes to immediate mind, and killed them there. But wherever the location, Hitler's extermination of Jews was well under way before November 1941 when Hitler met with the Mufti.
Killing Jews was always Hitler's dream, books and speeches confirm this. Even Merkel--today in front of Netanyahu-- corrected Netanyahu's statement about the Palestinian Mufti's role in the holocaust. She said it was Hitler's holocaust--that the Nazi's "broke with humanity".
Why would Netanyahu, whose every utterance is under the microscope, dare to make a false statement, especially one of this magnitude?
I don't have an answer for you other than Netanyahu says and does what Netanyahu wants because he (usually) can. I would guess--and it's only a guess---that he felt this would help rally the world in Israel's favor vis-à-vis the current Palestinian uprising.
"The Final Solution, by contrast, was implemented as fully as possible. It was originally to take place after the war. As it became clear in the second half of 1941 that the war was not going according to plan, Hitler made clear that he wanted a Final Solution to be effected immediately. By then, four versions of a Final Solution by deportation had been proposed and found to be impracticable. The invasion of the Soviet Union, and its failure, demonstrated how the Jews could be removed from Europe: by mass murder."
The book from which the above quote was taken was published in 2010 and received more than a dozen awards. As I stated previously, the author isn't speculating about when Hitler made the decision to exterminate the Jews... he has ample research to back up his conclusions.
And after all is said and done, it's pretty unbelievable that the Israeli Prime Minister would give such credence to the very cornerstone of holocaust deniers, which is: "All Hitler wanted to do was deport Jews, not kill them".
Netanyahu may need a nice long vacation.
You are just not listening. Not sure if it is intentional or other, but people are spoon feeding you historical proof that Islam played a significant role the Holocaust and you seem to be denying it. ??
I'll give you one more chance to understand what I'm saying. The author of the referenced book has reached the conclusion, based on historical evidence, that Hitler, who obviously hated Jews, did not, initially, (at the beginning, at the start, early on) intend to exterminate the Jews, but proposed differing deportation schemes, which were rendered unworkable by the way the war was going. He then formulated the Final Solution, i.e. the deliberate murder of all the Jews of Europe.
Netanyahu is simply saying that the Palestinian Mufti played some sort role in Hitler's final decision to actually systematically murder the Jews... the decision to exterminate rests with Hitler alone. I find it incredible that you would accuse Netanyahu of being a Holocaust denier, simply because he places the Mufti in the loop of Hitler's decision making process.
I think you may be the one in need of a long vacation.
Not initially. It was the next day when Netanyahu began backtracking from his original statement. Before boarding a plane for Germany, he added "of course" Hitler is to blame".
Here's the statement (you can find it on YouTube) that Netanyahu was trying to backtrack from:
"Hitler didnt want to exterminate the Jews at the time, he wanted to expel the Jews. And Haj Amin al-Husseini went to Hitler and said, If you expel them, theyll all come here. So what should I do with them? he asked. He said, Burn them.
The statement has been proven wrong (again) over the last few day to be factually wrong.
