According to the book that I mentioned, which seems to be well researched, Hitler’s plan in the beginning was to coerce all of the Jews of Europe, through property confiscation and intimidation, to emigrate to Madagascar. The author makes a pretty convincing case, and I don’t think he’s engaging in speculation. Why would Netanyahu, whose every utterance is under the microscope, dare to make a false statement, especially one of this magnitude?
The confiscation and intimidation was to weaken the Jews in Germany--he didn't want any push back. And, he was successful. Early on, Hitler was deporting Jews outside Germany, Lithuania comes to immediate mind, and killed them there. But wherever the location, Hitler's extermination of Jews was well under way before November 1941 when Hitler met with the Mufti.
Killing Jews was always Hitler's dream, books and speeches confirm this. Even Merkel--today in front of Netanyahu-- corrected Netanyahu's statement about the Palestinian Mufti's role in the holocaust. She said it was Hitler's holocaust--that the Nazi's "broke with humanity".
Why would Netanyahu, whose every utterance is under the microscope, dare to make a false statement, especially one of this magnitude?
I don't have an answer for you other than Netanyahu says and does what Netanyahu wants because he (usually) can. I would guess--and it's only a guess---that he felt this would help rally the world in Israel's favor vis-à-vis the current Palestinian uprising.
