No one is saying that Hitler was not quite as evil as we all thought. It’s common knowledge that eliminating the Jews of Europe was Hitler’s intention all along. However, according to the book entitled Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin, Hitler’s solution early on was not extermination, but simply expropriation of Jewish property, intimidation, and coerced emigration. The island of Madagascar was one option discussed; Poland and the Soviet Union were also discussed as options later in the war. Because Hitler’s war aims, with regard to the Soviet Union and Great Britain, were not realized early on, killing all of the Jews became an explicit policy as of late 1941. The book doesn’t say anything about the Grand Mufti being the impetus for the decision to exterminate the Jews, however, Hitler did meet with him in November 1941. Knowing the history between the Mufti and Hitler, I wouldn’t discount this being the case. I would also be inclined to trust Netanyahu’s knowledge of Jewish history rather than yours.
Just to be clear, you agree with Netanyahu's assessment that Hitler merely wanted to relocate European Jews until in November 1941 the Palestinian Mufti convinced Hitler to burn them?
I’ve read this book, Bloodlands. Interesting, but a hard read. I had to stop every few chapters. I thought the plan was to deport them farther east, deep into the Soviet republics. However with the blitz as rapid as it was, but not extending eastward as planned, all of those Jews were trapped. Suddenly, they were hemmed in. There was no time for them to evacuate. He didn’t want them, so, he killed them. Bibi is saying Hitler got the bug up his ass to exterminate the Jews from the “Palestinians”.
